Don't forget Bernhal too. He came as close to becoming elden lord as Vyke. It seems a maiden needs to be burned first to become illegible to become forge kindling (that's why Melina has burn scars). His maiden used Caelid fires to burn herself but she didn't succeed and died. Bernhal, filled with grief, renounced all that pretains to the golden order. In the end he invades you, to test you, or to stop you, either way he recognizes you as the true lord and whether by sore defeat or by recognizing your might and right to be lord he gives you the blasphemous claw to help you, just like he helped you since the beginning. Maybr at that invasion upon his defeat his faith returned, in you. For Vyke we actually are the reason why he doesn't have frenzy powers in the evergoal. Near the church of inhibition past Vyke invades us, right after succumbing to frenzy and we defeat him and take his eye. This literally frees him from frenzy but he loses one eye. He later gets imprisoned for his treason, but he has repented, he has forgone frenzy, you saved him from frenzy, bit it doesn't matter now, his repentance doesn't matter, now he's a prisoner forever, a forgotten man, like he never mattered. And then he sees us, the person that freed him from frenzy come again after so many hundreds of years to free him again from his eternal prison, his eternal oblivion.

Vyke and Bernahl have such beautifully tragic stories in such a Fromsoft way. I absolutely love them, arguably my third and fourth favorite stories in the Soulsbornes (behind the twin princes of Lothric in DS3, Father Gasoline from Bloodborne, and MAYBE Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower also from Bloodborne).

Also, love the content! It's a great, simple breakdown of the lore that I feel not enough people do.
