Your're right; time is precious. If your TV doesn't connect with audio via an optical port, go ahead and skip to 1:20. And you did this several times. How thoughtful. Thank you.

Modern TV, old stereo receiver and speakers. The only available "out" ports on the TV are auxillary out and digital optical out. When I first got the television, I had on hand a short cable with an aux jack on one end and red/white RCA jacks on the other. The cable is 10 inches long and I used two RCA couplers to connect it to a longer RCA cable that reachers the receiver. I used that connection to send my TV sound to the receiver. The sound was fine. Thinking it would be an upgrade, I bought a DAC similar to this one in the video and a digital optical cable. I hooked it up and the sound is noticeably lower through the optical line than it is through the aux cable. Both setups connect to the exact same RCA cable that plugs into the input on my stereo receiver - the aux directly with couplers and no DAC and the optical with the DAC in the middle. And yes, the DAC was setup correctly regarding all inputs and outputs. Again, I have sound with both, but the aux sound is louder by quite a bit. Any experiences on what would cause that to be the case?

Hi man! Awesome video.
Maybe what I'm trying to do is a little complicated haha
I have a Smart TV which has Optical Audio Out, as well as RCA.
I'm trying to connect this TV to a Focusrite Scarlett Audio Interface (which doesn't have optical audio input) in order to get the sound out of my Studio Monitors.
Could you help me figuring out how should I do this configuration please? I'm a little bit lost.

Hope you can help me.

Cheers, man!

Do you have eArc, my new Samsung tv doesn’t have an optical output, but I have a Bluetooth capable tv . I bought a Bluetooth receiver and paired to my tv problem solved on one hdmi. My cable box has an optical output so I can use that to feed the optical in on my surround sound, Problem solved here too, I bought an d since returned an hdmi with an optical breakout to provide signal but I could not get it to work. My Samsung tv tv defaults to tv speakers which I have turned to zero. I have to pair every time I use the Bluetooth, makes for using my firestick kinda wonky I can’t use video out of my stereo, an unstable picture when going through the Bose surround system video out, my other tv I had for 16 years ad no issue, got a bigger tv.
