Using the Fibonacci Series for Unit Conversions

In this short, I show how you can convert between miles and kilometers using the Fibonacci series. While it's simple and not as interesting as some of my other shorts, this is a surprisingly useful thing to know.

Okay, now ill just memorize the fibonacci series instead of literally the number 1.6

oh wow

that's a valid reason to memorize fibonacci up to a thousand, I guess

The natural log of 5, 1.609438 rounded, is amusingly close to the exact conversion of miles to kilometers, which is 1.609344. So just take the natural log of five on your scientific calculator and you’ll be within 9 centimeters per mile.

... or we could all just use kilometres...

I usually just do this...

4 miles in km is
4 x 1.6 which is around 6.4km
Since this can be hard, i separte it into 2 euqations (for now)
4 x 1.0 and(+)
4 x 0.5 = 4 : 2
I use 0.5 since its faster to find half of a number than multiplying that number by 0.6 ( 6 : 10 )
Anyways

So lets take 8 miles
I would do
( 8 x 1.0 ) + ( 8 / 2 ) + ( 8 x 0.1 )
The 8 x 0.1 comes from the multiplication factor
1.6 i have removed 1.5 ( 1 & 0.5 )
To later add another 0.1 missing to complete 1.6
1.0 + 0.5( / 2 ) + 0.1
With that said
8 miles are aprox. 12.8km
It might not be exact but it's fine for me.

E.g 18miles are 18x1 + 18/2 + 18x0.1
=> 28.8km

I hope i explaned it well enough, if anyone has an easier method, i would be glad to hear.
