At her and Vision’s home, Wanda finally breaks, falling to her knees and crying…and that’s when it happens. A cascade of red energy bursts from her, transforming the town and recreating Vision. We’re back in the 1950s-esque setting, the colour has drained and the last missing piece has been revealed. This is how it all started.
And really…it’s not that big a surprise? I had kind of assumed “Wanda was sad and had a little breakdown, and changed everything” was the given, and that the show might add a little more of a twist on top of that. But I suppose we do still have Agatha.
Wanda’s energy, and finally got something working – apale Vision
In case it wasn’t clear before, Hayward lied about Wanda stealing Vision’s body. Clearly he’s been lying all along, just looking for some way to get his pet project up and running (whether that means stealing Wanda’s second Vision or just getting her to make his work) and now he’s found it.
Now it seems like we’re set for a Vision-vs-Vision, witch-vs-witch smackdown in next week’s finale, and I honestly can’t wait to see what level of action Marvel is capable of on the small screen. If nothing else, we’ve come a long way from breakfast for dinner.
And after a slightly tense stand-off, Wanda kind of agrees! At least, he’s not her Vision any more. Leaving the corpse of her lover behind, Wanda instead drives over to Westview, New Jersey, spotting the “real” versions of several of her sitcom pals before heading to the house she and Vision were (apparently?) going to live in together. Clearly, New Jersey suffered quite a lot from the “blip”, even if it just came to lawn maintenance.
Cast and characters:
Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch:
An Avenger who can harness magic, engage in telepathy and telekinesis, and alter reality. Olsen said the series brings the character more in line with the comic book version, including depicting her mental illness, and introducing the "Scarlet Witch" moniker that was not previously used in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Executive producer Kevin Feige added that the series explores the extent and origin of Wanda's powers. Olsen felt her "ownership" of Wanda was strengthened during development of the series, which allowed her to explore new parts of the character's personality such as her humor and sassiness :30 She was thrilled that WandaVision focuses on Wanda rather than telling her story "through everyone else's story lines" as in the films, and was sold on joining the series when Feige mentioned specific Scarlet Witch comic storylines that inspired WandaVision. Olsen was influenced by Mary Tyler Moore, Elizabeth Montgomery, and Lucille Ball for her performance. wandavision episode 3
Paul Bettany as Vision:
An android and former Avenger created using the artificial intelligences J.A.R.V.I.S. and Ultron as well as the Mind Stone, who was killed during the events of Avengers: Infinity War (2018). Bettany described Vision as "decent and honorable" who "exists for Wanda". He was influenced by Dick Van Dyke and Hugh Laurie for his performance.
►Powers
✔ Chaos Magic: Wanda's main power is the superhuman ability to manipulate the powerful magic known as Chaos magic which allows her to alter reality and control various forms of mystical energy. Wanda received the “blessing” of the old God of chaos, Chthon, who came to her, the day she was born, which would allow her to use his chaos magic as her own and this would increase Wanda’s natural ability to magic. It was later revealed that Chthon has never wanted to “bless” Wanda with his magic, but to use her as a “vessel” that he could one day possess, when she was a full-grown adult and reached her Full Potential, though his schemes to do so were foiled by the Avengers.
✔ Magic: Wanda also possesses the ability to manipulate magic. Wanda has inherited her witchcraft powers from her true mother, who is the original Scarlet Witch, who hails from a long line of sorcerers, meaning that Wanda was born a human with the affinity to control magic, allowing her to use the witchcraft she was born with and that her powers were never gave to her by the High Evolutionary as it was believed rather, he had altered her so Wanda is more receptive to magical energy.
✔ Astral Projection: Wanda possess the ability to project her spirit or astral body out of her physical body in order to travel into the spirit world or the astral plane. She still can cast hexes in her astral form.
