Very interesting video. I wonder where this was filmed. Was this filmed in Ukraine? I ask because if you pause the video at 0:09 seconds, what you see in the background is one Patriot launcher (on the right side of the screen) and on the left is a German IRIS-T SLS/M launcher. I wonder if those are kept at that airbase at all times to defend it from Russian attacks, or if they were moved there specifically to defend the airfield from attacks just while Zelensky visited?

The reason I find it interesting is because I didn't think Ukraine had enough Patriot batteries to station them both in Kyiv AND at an airbase that I am assuming is farther to the west of Ukraine. I thought they only had two Patriot systems, and you would need to have two of them in Kyiv in order to defend the city from both the north AND from the south because a Patriot radar only faces one way.

The brand-new radar system that Raytheon is building for the newest Patriot system has 360-degree coverage. It has three separate radar arrays on one trailer instead of the single array that Patriots have always had up until now...one big array in front that you would point at the most likely path of incoming enemy aircraft/cruise missiles/ballistic missiles, and then two smaller radars at the back of the trailer that cover the opposite direction. Those two smaller radars are as powerful as the current single large Patriot radar, and the single big radar for the new Patriot systems is able to track much smaller objects at much greater distances than the current large Patriot radar.

However, Ukraine obviously has not been sent these brand-new radars as far as we know. I believe the US military doesn't even have them yet. That is how new they are. I seem to recall Raytheon just finishing up the manufacturing of the first example of these new radars for Patriot sometime in the last few months. So there is no way that Ukraine has them. That is why it would take two separate Patriot batteries to defend Kyiv from both the north and south, and as far as we know, Ukraine has only been given two Patriot batteries. One by the US and one by Germany.

So it is very interesting to see a Patriot launcher in this video as I am presuming that it was filmed at a Ukrainian airbase that is much further to the west of the country than Kyiv is. This would suggest that Ukraine may have been sent a third Patriot battery specifically to secure the airfield from which their newly donated Storm Shadow/SCALP cruise missiles are launched. It obviously makes sense that this airfield must be protected from incoming Russian cruise/ballistic missile attacks.
