BMW Service - Oilhead cylinder head re-torque / angle torque

Показать описание
This very neglected 1993 BMW R1100RS had a stripped cylinder head stud which I repaired. Here is a video displaying how to properly torque the cylinder head after replacing a head gasket. The procedure for a 600 mile service is slightly different. Contact me if you need clarification. Thanks for watching and please rate my videos thumbs up if you like them.

Man doing this bike head to toe without your videos it would be impossible. And regarding not paying attention. It's not just the cost of the matter, the hassle, the ruined plans, can't price that. Thank you!

Head re-torque didn't help. My advise to anyone thinking a re-torque might help, don't bother. If it's leaking replace it, period. haven't replaced mine yet, a good winter project. Again, thanks Chris and everyone involved for your videos, very helpful.

Thanks for the tip. I did see somewhere that there is a pushrods upgrade. I will look at the cost and consider new vs used. thanks.

The rocker arm end-play on an Oilhead should be loose. Your noise is likely a defective push-rod. The push-rods are very short and the ball end is pressed in. I have had a couple that were not crimped properly and that allowed the ball end to pull out slightly and then snap back in under pressure! So, take each push-rod out, clamp it in a bench vise and try to pull the ball end out slightly. If it moves it is junk. Get 4 used ones and reassemble the top end.

This task is just before me. I replaced the pushrods for the new type and for that i had to loosen a head bolt. So i stuck new head gaskets in there.
Fun fact (at least i hope it's a fact), the head gaskets are the same part on each side, there is no left and right

I
Origionally from Buffalo here but Seattle resident since the 80's
Im a little confused on rocker endplay. Manual shows clearance measurment at the bottom of the rocker but there is space at the top and vertical movement and I'm tempted to measure the clearance at that location. I'm chasing clacking sounds that I fear are rod bearings. '95 1100RS with 35, 000 mi. Noise increases with warm up. I may kick the viscosity up a noch and see what happens.

Hi Chris, When adjusting cam end float, can you confirm it's OK to undo one head stud only and re-torque? Compared to all of them.

1995 R1100R, would it be worth it to re-torque the leaking head before replacing the gasket to see if the leak stops??

I've been wrenching on stuff my entire life including nuclear submarines for the USN as a Marine Machinery Technician. I've never seen a torque wrench with an alligator clip like that. What is it's purpose? Thanks for the explanation.

Hi great video, can i ask a question, i have a bmw r1200gsa 2007. I drained engine oil and noticed small brass looking particles, any idea what component might be worn out? 40, 000 miles on this engine, thank you and keep up the great videos

Could you please explain to a newbie. Why was the repaired stud only torqued to 160 degrees while the other three received the full 180?
