This Makes The Golf Swing So Simple!

The travel of the arms in the golf swing can be one of the most difficult things for amateur golfers to get right.

A common issue will be excessive “lifting” of the arms during the backswing leading to a steep, over the top downswing which creates havoc when trying to develop a repeatable, consistent golf swing.

The best golfers have learned to swing their arms and club AROUND them “on plane” to deliver the club back to the ball in the most accurate and powerful way possible - and you can learn to do this too!

The “Tees Under Arms” drill is a simple way to learn how to keep your arms connected to your body and swing on a more natural and neutral swing arc, resulting in a more consistent golf swing and better golf shots!

excellent. I have recently just discovered stack and tilt, but I shot a slightly inconsistent round today and started doubting it. Went to the range after to work through a few issues and try out the old swing to see if it was more consistent, and sure enough no it wasn’t - I tried making the S&T style swing work again and started striping a few dead straight and realised the difference was staying connected.
I think the simplicity is that you don’t need to lift _at all_, rather than you need to lift at a certain point, or rotate and lift at the same time but then “drop the arms in the slot” which I’ve never managed to become confident at doing. And simplicity is hopefully a recipe for more consistency

The horizontal drill has been around a while. I was so excited on the range after working on the drill before each shot. My worst shots were good. But the majority were as good as I am capable of hitting. Then came the litmus test, carrying it to the course. The magic was gone. My heart ached, how could it disappear so quickly. This was all prior to watching this video. The one thing I was not focusing on was keeping the arms “attached to the body, ” as my focus was mainly on swinging the arms on an incline plane. I will try the tee drill.

Thank you Rob! I'm finally able to get my backswing longer and increase the power. Thanks again!

I've been working on this for a few weeks now and your video has summed it up well. I'm finding that emulating a baseball swing on a horizontal plane gets the right feels in motion, including weight shift, shaft lean, squaring of club face, rotating through impact, and hip turn. Then it's just a case of angling the arc down gradually after a few swings and you can even start to use the ground reaction forces to provide more speed at the bottom of the arc. Eventually this just turns into the normal golf swing without overthinking.

I've also been focusing on keeping my trail elbow in towards my body and straightening my left arm. The gains in consistency and accuracy have been monumental which in turn has given me the confidence to rotate harder and paradoxically add more power even with a shorter swing. It's really brought me out of a bit of a golfing rut.

Best golf video on YouTube. Can’t be much more simple. Take your address, weight forward, arms connected to the chest, rotate your upper body to complete the backswing.

Do not use your arms and hands to initiate the backswing. Use the big muscles of the upper body.

Fantastic video Rob! Just subscribed.

Like it. Need these two drills! Less complicated than some other coaches.

Took this to the course and hit some crazy accurate shots just simply pretending my head was touching something especially on the downswing. Trusting this is hard because being a caster and early extender most of my golfing life it feels like you will stab the club head into the ground six inches behind the ball but oddly enough if done as demonstrated you get crisp contact

Would you advise this to someone that has longer arms than their height? I've been told that I have to get my hands higher (I'm 5 foot 6 with 5 foot 8 wingspan). Thanks.

Rob, another simple and easy reminder that the golf swing is not as confusing as others lead us to believe ...
Thanks so much for these video's

Rob, are your lessons considered "stack and tilt"?

This gives me accuracy but less distance.

Rob, when you swing the club with the torso upright, the plane is horizontal to the ground. But surely when the hips move towards the target the torso inclines and this must change the swing plane to tilting upward and to the right as per Ben Hogan’s 5 lessons. Your thoughts please.

What about the initial wrist set you explained about in a later video?

Great info as always Rob!
Head on the wall and straight arms are the real Keys to the swing…until you hit one bad shot and everything goes out the window. So I’ve heard.

Thanks Rob! Your video instruction has given me much more knowledge and confidence with my complete swing! I will get Skillest video to you in about 2 weeks. Very busy with work! Best regards, Richard.

If I just straighten the right arm gradually in the downswing doesn’t that square the clubface and shallow the club at the same time? Like a bicep curl. So just curl the right arm up in the backswing and uncurl in the downswing without moving the elbow around would while rotating the body would shallow the club square the clubface without much manipulation of the shaft and having any conscience effort to square the clubface.
