In this week’s episode, JNS editor-in-chief discusses the debate among conservatives over how to respond to woke Marxist cultural indoctrination and whether Yoram Hazony’s new book on Conservatism provides the answer needed to defend both liberty and Western civilization.

He’s joined by Hazony who warns that “woke neo-Marxism” is carrying out a ”perpetual revolution indefinitely until it simply destroys everything.” He extols the virtues of personally leading “a conservative life” in which faith plays a central role and explains how his template for tradition and religion-based politics gives an answer to the left that liberalism has failed to provide.

The listening experience is somewhat marred when Hazony speaks. It’s like being in a car with a driver who keeps braking and going over many bumps in the road. It’s not that he lacks insight and erudition, but that his stop and start manner of speech leaves the sincere listener exhausted. “Th…th…th…the”, and so on. That said, an amazing interview, Jonathan, and I appreciated your introduction.

Wonderful discussion. Thank you both. Although a Christian, I am convinced that the answer to everything can be found in Bereshit including, e.g., the question of whether there are limits to personal freedom.
Lesson 1: Of every tree of the garden you are free to eat (human freedom is very broad)
Lesson 2: but as for the tree of knowledge of good and bad, you must not eat of it (human freedom has limits)
Lesson 3: for as soon as you eat of it, you shall die. (There is a paradox, that when we attempt to assert more freedom, we end up with less)
