Is this Suzuki DF20 Outboard engine locked up? Part 3
Getting a little deeper into this little 4 stroke outboard engine to see if it is in fact seized up.

This late model Suzuki 4 stroke outboard motor experienced a severe overheating problem which caused it to run in limp-mode when it was mounted to the transom of a boat. The previous owner took everything apart and cleaned out the sand that had been sucked up into the cooling system and got it running again. But then it quickly reverted back to having the problem and now I am digging into it to see if it is worth fixing.

Do I have a locked up outboard motor?

I highly doubt the belt slipped, these smaller motors don't have tensioner so the belt slides on off the crank under tension. I had to unfreeze a 15hp yammie that was sized, took head off. Tilted motor so piston was facing up. Filled the combustion chambers with pbr waited two days. Then used a piece of wood and a 3lb sledgehammer and hammered the piston. Got it to budge little by little. New head gasket and the motor was running next day.

Mystery oil poured into each cylinder through spark plugs soak overnight

If you can't spin the flywheel with a breaker bar then you have some sort of serious internal issue. Time to tear it apart and see if theres scoring on the cylinders? If not then you can probably get away with a set of pistons and rings and of course make sure the oil pump is in decent shape. If so you might be able to get it back. With a little bit if machine work and oversized pistons and rings. But your going to be rebuilding it though.

My DF20 engine has failures when accelerating greatly, I have already changed the spark plugs and the fuel system and it remains the same as it could be.

Damn. That seems to be a serious failure then. Bad luck, definitely. If the timing belt was too loose there is a possibility of serious damages to valves and/or pistons.

Motor got hot due to bad water pump or something clogged the water inlet.

Heat up some marble mystery and dump it down the spark plugs holes

fill cylinders with pb blaster or kroil or automatic transmission fluid and let it sit and soak overnight if not a few days. keep it wet in the cylinders, leave the plugs out and put a socket on the flywheel and go back and forth it should break free.

It's just kind of rare for a four-stroke to lock up like a two-stroke, could be an open valve but if that's the case then you would be able to spin it backwards at least a little bit

Too bad I don’t know too much about boat motors I can’t help. I still have this Johnson lt10 motor sitting here …. I don’t know where to start do you have a video on that?

Do you have a shop? If so, where are you based?

How old is that? If its newer, it has a computer in it that a Suzuki technician can read.

Tie or brade a 50 foot rope to it securely, now you have an extra anchor ⚓
