80 years on, we mark the anniversary of one of the Allies' most daring offensives of the Second World War: Operation Market Garden and the Battle for Arnhem.

Well worth the visit, if you get the chance. Plenty of places to see within walking distance. Wear a decent pair of comfortable shoes. The Dutch are still very appreciative, and are excellent hosts.

Worth a visit, the area around the Hartenstein Hotel is very pretty and walking the ground gives a good idea of the situation facing the paratroopers. The Dutichies don't forget and this is shown by events such as the Oosterbeek 'flower children' as well as in the names of streets and locations. The controversy around the viability of the imssion remains, however one thing is certain: light infantry and armour don't mix. The biggest questions are the 'what if's' with perhaps the biggest one being 'what if' the 9 and 10 SS tank divisions had not been sent to the 'rest' areas around Arnhem, Nijmegen and Wolfheze. Lest we forget.
