I wasnt clear, in this bathroom example, the toilet is closer to the front door and the sink is further from the front door, and this is bad!

Sink goes closer to the door because you don't need the toilet every time you need a sink, but you should use the sink every time you use the toilet.

I can't believe someone would allow that design to happen

The gasp I gasped... Isn't this common sense?? It feels so wrong to have the toilet in the front of the room and the sink hidden.. what is the point???? What if the lock doesn't work????

Also, order of operations. Go to the far spot, do thing one, head to the door and stop to wash hands, leave. I know too many people who'd use the toilet then just GTFO and not wash their hands because the sink is out of sight, out of mind.

Also, if you just need to wash your hands, you have to pass by the potty. If they were reversed, you could just pop in to wash hands or brush your teeth or touch up your makeup if you needed to.

"always close that" thank you for speaking facts, I used to live with a family member who was resistant to that, often leaving the bathroom door wide open and also would take calls while actively peeing

Totally unrelated but do you have feng shui considerations for floor living? Sitting on the floor, sleeping on the floor etc or is it same as normal

And don't forget to close the lid! Idk if there's a feng shui reason, but there's DEFINITELY a health reason - the force of the water during a flush can spray poo particles all over your bathroom. Not a joke. Also you might want a new toothbrush.

In Poland it is mandatory by law that public toilets have to zones so that toilets are seperated ftom the sinks

I know you said close the lid but in a public toilet setting a closed lid screams “You REALLY don’t want to see what I left in here!!”
If I go into a stall and the lid is down I walk right back out because there is usually something NASTY in there!!
At home is a different story… lid goes down, especially if it’s in a shared bathroom space.

I've been struggling with that problem so often, Mr. Modern sir.. The lid of the toilet seat, my family members never put the lid back down. And I constantly have to clean it whenever I intend to use it. I'M SO FRUSTRATED WITH THIS PROBLEM!!!

I never thought about it before and yet that makes so much intuitive sense! :) Thanks for pointing it out Cliff!

I went to college at UMASS and took classes in the John W. Olver Design Building. This building was not just meant to be this contemporary architectural marvel of wood construction, but also literally housed the department of architecture and the department of landscape architecture and regional planner. The thing that baffled me to this day, is the damn bathrooms.

So, i’m not sure if I was the only student that had a problem with this. But, for a building literally nurturing generations of future architects, not a single architect designing the building could make the bathroom stall big enough to breathe in. They must of literally went for the building code minimum for how much space a toilet needs. And the bathrooms themselves aren’t even that small so I wouldn’t say it was because of a lack of room. I felt like some of the important things I learned studying architecture at my community college was visualizing how a space will be used by actual people of all types and sizes, looking beyond the specs on a piece of paper or CAD file. Yet for the women’s bathroom the stall were skinny and they seemingly forgot that not only are there some big girls out there that might want to use a toilet it without their thighs hitting the stall sides, and i’m not even talking 200+ girls at this point either, I weighed less than 200 pounds and was still having this problem, but they also seemed to have forgot that the school would have to install sanitary bins and toilet paper dispensers on said stall walls. So they were skinny to begin with then they had to shove a trash bin and a toilet paper dispenser on those walls making the stall even smaller.

All I can say is that when you’re running around with a backpack you want some run to swing the bag off. I’ve seen bigger stall at a freakin Walmart. And again, if they had put thought into it, they had the room in said bathrooms to make the stalls bigger. This was a choice by either budget or the architect to make the stalls that damn skinner without any thought for the people using them. Again, from what I learned at a community college of all, you would think professional architects would remember what actually goes into a bathroom. At the very least they should have remembered that toilet paper dispensers need to go on the stall walls and factor in that room. I can see if the architects were men, no offense, that they might have over looked the feminine hygiene trash bin. Though since they neglected to consider both, I can’t even say it was a gender things, it was just a poorly design bathroom thing.

Sorry for my stupid rant. But seriously, a building design by architects for architect you would think be state of the art in all areas. Of course there’s always faults in designs or more that design standards change and what’s new and fancy now might seem outdated years later. But we been designing bathrooms for decades now.

The rest of the building is really cool. It takes advantage of natural lighting instead of keeping students stuck in artificial lighting. Makes for a nice and airy atmosphere. I even had a couple of classes on the rooftop garden because the teacher wanted us to just enjoy the fresh air. And it’s all wood construction! And the design factored in rain gardens. Cool place if you like those sorts of things.

I agree. That way, two people can use the space. One can be using the toilet (which should have excellent ventellation and aromatic solutions, lol) while another can get ready in the morning (washing face, brushing teeth, doing hair/makeup).

I also keep my toilet lids shut. I don’t want to see where we all 💩. I see it enough at work

Yes, ALWAYS, shut the lid! Ew the bacterial plume.

Oh my gosh, finally someone saying to always close the toilet lid. Some people act like they don't know why there is a lid! No one needs to fight over putting the seat up or down, everyone just close the lid before flushing, and avoid all those whooshing germs!!
