HOW to REPLACE your REVERSE OSMOSIS TANK

Getting very little flow from your Reverse Osmosis faucet? Reverse Osmosis tank not filling up or maybe the tank is full but nothing is coming out? Maybe you keep running out of water because your tank is too small for your family? How long do ro tanks last anyway?
If you’re not sure which one you need just measure the width, or diameter of your tubing with a ruler.
To remove your old tank:
1) Shut off the flow to the tank
2) Shut off the flow of water going to your Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water system
3) Open the faucet to release the pressure.
4) Place some towels under the tank as there will be a little water spilled.
To install the new tank:
1) Wrap Teflon tape around the threads, about 3 turns.
2) Screw on the tank shut off valve.
3) Push the tubing into the tank shut off valve and pull back to make sure that it is tight.
4) Turn on the water to the Reverse Osmosis drinking water system and monitor it over the next couple of hours to make sure there are no leaks as the tank fills with water and pressure increases.

You'll get more capacity and better performance by replacing that old worn out RO tank. This video shows you how!

If you’re reusing your old valve, be sure to relieve the pressure in the old tank before you unscrew it. Take your tank to a sink or outside and open the valve after you’ve disconnected it.

Do new RO tanks come pre-pressurized to 7psi?...Or do we have to pressurize it ourselves?

I finally just ordered a new tank last week because mine (3 gallon tank) has been putting out about 3/4 of a gallon before slowing to a trickle for almost a year now...which is just barely enough to tolerate most of the time....but I figured it was time to do something about it. But then...while waiting for the new tank to arrive....I wanted to temporarily remove the existing one out of my cabinet to replace the cabinet floor, I pumped all of the water out to make it easier to lift out. When I put the tank back into the cabinet after replacing the floor, I turned the water back on and now it's putting out about 2-1/2 gallons before slowing to a trickle. Maybe this means I just didn't have it sufficiently pressurized?...and somehow I inadvertently re-pressurized it in the process of getting the water out?....and that I don't need the new tank that's arriving in three more days?

In the mean time I have completely pumped every last bit of water out of existing tank....pressurized it to 7psi....and it's currently filling. I will test the output again before giving up on it and installing the new one. Maybe I can even return the new one! (we'll see)

Question, is a new R/o tank clean and ready to go? Or should I trash the first tank full of water from a factory new tank

Hi Gary, is it better to upgrade to a larger tank or install a 2nd 4 gallon tank if I'm looking to increase pressure a bit? Also if installing a 2nd tank you mentioned it can be installed anywhere along the system but I don't really understand how. Doesn't the tank need to be installed prior to the 5 and 6th stage filters? Right now I have my RO system and tank in the basement and the faucet and refrigerator upstairs. I could install a 2nd tank below the sink if you think it's possible but again I don't understand how that would work because it would be installed after all the filters.

Hi there, Gary! Would you happen to know the time it takes to fill a newly installed RO tank? Thanks.

Doesn't the valve on top of the tank have an o-ring? If so, I'm not clear why it needs teflon tape.

Hi Gary, do I dispose the old water tank in regular trash?

Hey Gary! Is it possible to by pass the tank all together with an RO? Would the system function as it should? thanks!

My old 2 gallon tank was putting out low pressure so i decided to replace it with a 6 gallon tank. Made sure the air bladder had pressure before connecting to water. But it is still flowing slow. Can the valve on the tank fail and block flow? I reused the valve from the old tank.
