I have probably about a dozen various DMM's. Everything from Fluke to Klein, to Sperry, Craftsman, Southwire and Ideal. But my go-to is my Fluke T5- 600 tester. I even have a belt holster for it to carry it on my belt.

Prices on decent meters have come down to the point where the difference between the bare bones models and the "all u ever need" models can be as little as $50-100.

Sure if your job requires the precision of a $600 meter then buy it, but lately I have become partial to a $150 Ideal meter because of the bottom display for awkward position amp readings and the low impedance mode.

The only reason it would not replace my trusty old fluke is sentiment, my dad bought it for me when I started my apprenticeship and the damn thing has never let me down all these years later.

Just wanted to inform you that your educational videos helped me answer a few questions on my work placement tests recently.
Thank you for that.

Working on cars, I get the most use out of my klein clamp meter. Just make sure you get one that does DC amps.

I have all three. Use the tester most of the time, and the others as needed.

That Fluke lets you put one or both of the probes in the back of the case which helps with lead management. One hand holds the meter and probe combo while you can use the other probe with your other hand.

A DMM is the only way to go in an industrial maintenance setting if you regularly troubleshoot field devices and PLCs. The 789 is my current DMM, absolutely rocks!

DIY folks don't need a Fluke, change my mind... Also, I just got a cheapo from Amazon that will do inductive amps on DC. Great for chasing down current drain on a Chevy

My old crusty fluke 73 from the eighties still works great!!

Fieldpiece. It has a detachable amp clamp that can be put on your leads so you don't have to cram the whole meter in. It does ohm values, continuity, touchless voltage detection, temperature readings, μf readings, and the list goes on.

I have both a DMM for auto and bench work, and a clamp on meter electrical work.

I'd say for anything physical like working on a home or car then go for a clamp always.
If you're working with electronics then you should probably get a variable power supply and DMM with some good alligator and hook clamps.
Applying your own power for delicate electronics is essential.

Also, Fluke’s DMMs have a loading function which is vital for reliably testing outlets as well as many types of control board circuits, if you’re in a technical or repair business. 😊

You can buy Magnet Attachments for the Tester too 😁

I just use a meter for troubleshooting a bit of home repair so my little fluke 107 is perfect for almost everything I need it for. Fantastic meter for the money, premium feel, fits in a pocket and comes stock with a magnetic mount that doubles as a kickstand.

For rare times that I need a more capable meter, I use a Klein cl390. On paper it’s equal if not better than the fluke in every category but for whatever reason I really prefer my little 107. Maybe it’s just sentimental value 😂.

I use to buy big meters now I just buy those mini multimeters. Does most of the jobs for me and it's lighter easier to pack away

I always had to carry a DMM, preferred and analog VOM, various clamp probes, a low impedance plunger type tester and mostly used my T-5, but it was very limited

I got a $10 excel and it’s handled everything I’ve thrown at it for the past 15 years. No need to buy Klein or fluke if all you do is mechanic and home stuff.

As an HVAC tech, I love my Fieldpiece clamp meter. It links to the JobLink app along with my refrigerant scale, pressure and temp probes, and other tools.

Hey folks first thing you need to know is get the right and proper gear to test live circuits he doesn't tell you that he might not make it home to your family if you don't wear the proper gear.
