The Big Picture - Safeguarding Data

Telecom watchdog Telecom regulatory authority of India TRAI has released a set of recommendations regarding privacy , security and ownership of data in the telecom sector . It says both collectors and processors should be accountable for unintended harm caused to the user . It has also suggested that existing laws that apply to telecom servcie providers should also apply to all entities in digital ecosystem . TRAI has also said in its recommendations that the right to choice , Notice , consent , data portability and right to be forgotten should be conferred upon the consumers .

Meanwhile a committee led by retired supreme court judge B N Shrikrishna is reading the efforts from the govt to draft new data privacy laws .

Implementation of data safeguarding law is important. Most of people don't know their cyber right, cyber awareness, etc. TRAI will make law for people, but unfortunately most of them don't know how to enjoy it.
