Jesus! I installed a short throw shifter on my 2003 Mach 1 in about 30 minutes. There are a TON of pieces to this shifter! I just bought a 2016 WRX and I'm thinking the stock shifter might not be so bad after all. LOL

Good gosh...insane install. Guess stock isn't so bad.

When's the CVT short shifter going to be released?

I did this in about 2.5 hours, thank you Kevin from subispeed.

my recommendation is that you have a mechanically inclined friend, the right tools and be safe lifting your car. the rest is cake

This install can also be done without removing the entire assembly. I couldn’t remove the four lower nuts from the shifter assembly, so I removed the two side trim panels around the shifter to provide more room, and proceeded the sub-assembly removal. Was able to access all the bolts. Was an easy install. Seems like a lot but once you get into it, it’s really simple.

What size roll pin is that? You didn't mention the size in the video and I'm trying to locate and get one :(

this install took me about 4 hours....super difficult but one thing i want to mention at 2:16 he removes 4 10mm nuts, on my 2016 the bolts came loose and i was unable to remove the shift assembly so i had to do the whole process from that point in the car. at the end of it all it was really worth it shifting feels great. i also did the perrin shift bracket and bushing along with the stopper guide

@billetworkz this is due for an update guys. Biggest issue I found with your video was the lack of info regarding orientation of parts and tool sizes used for each part (ie punch size and socket sizes here and there)

Also, I had that greasy spring pop out on me when I removed that part of the assembly and had no idea what it looked like prior because I didn't know to check. I had to pause your video and zoom in and guess how the part was supposed to sit.

I installed the trifecta, weighted knob (thank god cause that plate needs one), short shifter and plate. Night and day difference. Its a little notchy for my taste but not enough to even complain really because it was notchy stock as well. The best improvement was probably from the plate and bushing combo. That completely changed the way it feels to shift. Before it was sloppish (I did have a Shifter Stop installed) and felt like I was stirring a bucket of rocks. This shifter feels the way a shifter should feel.

Biggest complaints: 1st and reverse can sometimes be hard to get into, but I think an adjustment to the shifter stop will fix that (however in my experience you want it to be initially a tad too tight because it will loosen over time). Also, the shift from 2nd to 3rd was tough at times but that's probably an adjustment I need to make. 3rd to 4th on the other hand is *chef's kiss* 4-5 is good and 5th to 6th is just as nice as 3rd-4th. 1st-2nd is that way too however I think due to the shifter stop being too tight, I'm getting resistance from it. I'm probably gonna miss some shifts for a day or two haha.

The throw of this shifter is the shortest I have ever felt period. 55% reduction is no joke no to mention the knob sits lower than stock. Also there is more resistance on the shifter while shifting making it feel very tight in travel distance as well as the shifter feel. This will probably become normal to me over time. Keep in mind this is also coming from someone who just took a 5 minute test drive to make sure my car was good to go for work in the morning at 1 AM. Thought I would share my initial thoughts. Hope you take this post as constructive criticism as I don't intend to bash on you. Your craftsman ship is the best I've experienced and I will certainly be looking in your direction for future mods.

Any chance of getting a quick review video?  I think a lot of people are wondering how it feels compared to the stock or STI shifter.

Awesome install video guys!! Just finished the install and this video helped a ton. To the guys that say this is too hard or intimidating, just give it a shot. It's definitely not hard, but it is several steps so it can be time consuming, especially if you take your time like I did. In the end it is totally worth it though as it completely changes the driving experience for the better. If you have the Perrin shift stop you'll probably have to readjust it and the reverse lockout stop to make sure you can still get in all of your gears easily.

I was thinking about doing this, glad I watched this first....PITA install.

installed it last weekend. This would have been so much easier if he finished up the video and didn't forget to install one of the bolts.
Notice at 6:51 he removes o-ring and one of the metal nuts falls out, (3 nuts on the table instead of 2) you can hear it fall on the table too. That fell out from under the assembly and is used to tighten the bolt shown at 5:33. You can kinda see the nut at 6:33.
Also pay attention how the side shift assembly is put together because the three pieces could be pain in the ass to put together if you don't know what you are doing.
Also the shifter now hits the hand brake so I would probably need to upgrade that....

Would be great to see how the side shift assembly is put back together! Great video but just would have liked to see that as a walk through

I have a question mechanical experts please inquire. I have the 2015 wrx my car read a double reverse 6th and reverse gear. It was after I swapped to a "2016 transmission specified for 2015-2018 wrx" and put a southbend stage 1 clutch kit+flywheel the in the steering column the ecu read a double reverse from a 6th to reverse shift and in neutral without pressing the clutch in it makes a harsh grinding noise it’s also giving me issues shifting clutch to the floor to first and a few gears. Any diagnosis?

Have you done a comparison between the aftermarket short shifter kit vs. the factory short shift kit? Would you share your impressions please.
