In this video, I show what I found to be causing a no 4th condition after overhauling this transmission one month ago. Problem was found in the valvebody after airchecking the clutch packs all seemed ok so I decided to open the valvebody and found the problem.

I got a 545rfe and it shifts all fine until the 3-4 shift, it jerks then gets stuck in 3rd all the time. I got p0734 and p0871, many mechanics told me it needs a rebuild, I changed the solenoid pack but nothing happened. could it be the entire valve body?
Note: if I turn the car off when its stuck in 3rd gear and turn it back on it shift regularly from 1st to 3rd.

Yup 5 minutes in and I can’t take it anymore. To much beating around the bush.

Hey Gary I have a 2007 mazda 3, 2.3, automatic, I have the same code just wondering did this fix the issue <Im a learning self mechanic and me and my old man have been trying to figure out this issue for a month and the only thing I can think IS the same thing you said garbage in the holes not letting the oil go threw <I have the same issue very rough shift in all gears, Sometimes in 3 when shifting to 4th it will just rev the rpms and not move but then it will jump into gear <thinking about dropping everything and checking thos holes you found the stuff in

Every mechanic has comebacks that's a fact. How you deal with it is what makes the difference.

Not a great way to spend your 4th of July but glad you're honest, took care of her and show when comebacks occur.
That's the cons of silicone and using plastic internal parts, plastic gets old and brittle from those heat cycles, especially when washers/bushings are so thin, they crack easily. Sometimes you have to wonder about their manufacturing choices Gary

Thanks for sharing the tip Gary. I'm sure you felt relieved when you finally saw that piece of silicone in there. What's with the stick shift? Front bearing? Shift rails?

Gary, excellent video. Any idea of which direction to go when my Mazda FNR5 is slow to engaged in Drive and reverse and slams hard when passing gear kicked in. Otherwise drive it and it’s shifts beautifully!, ! I changed the fluid and filter. Would bring to you but in south alabama

Hello Gary, thank you for sharing. I have a 012 journey with a 62te. Car drive fine for 5mile then it have a hard time shifting 2-3er gear. RPM gose up can't go pass 40mph. putting out code P0732 & P0792 Pending: P0732 P0775 P0792. Clear the code car drive fine for 5mile then it does it again. Any suggestions? I am thinking it could be the valve body. Thank you again.

I was a Ford dealer transmission tech for many years, , all I do is Ford transmissions now.
Back in the day, , under warranty on the 4f27e focus transmissions,
A po734 with a neutral on 3-4 shift was usually a blown out solenoid body to valve body filter gasket or
If the gasket wasn't torn on VB removal then the VB was the next most common issue, , I can't remember what valve bore would wear out..VB would be replaced..
Also would overhaul them in the vehicle under warranty, , easy money!!
Many end cover and direct drums ring grooved, , ,
Or 2-4 servo piston was shredded from a rough case finish, , ,
Used to take a hole saw and wrap it with 3m sanding disc (can't remember proper name right now)
And use electric drill to resurface the servo bore in the case.
I still have probably 20 brand new overhaul kits I will never use.
Are you interested????

Gary, whenever you overhaul main control/valve body assemblies, do you totally disassemble the assembly removing all valves, springs, retainers, etc to thoroughly clean/inspect? Or do you just check them for adequate valve movement, and clean with all the components installed?

Thanks Gary, always good info, " just a thought " with all the tech stuff ! Why can't the " plate be scanned " and matched with, cleared plate, like "GO - NO GO " ! So many mechanics, forget, feel is better than sight, in some cases !

Gary, getting caught up, I'm late but still watching. Always upsetting to get one back, glad you found the issue and it wasn't major!

No one likes when stuff comes back but it happens and a little piece of anything can hide in small spaces and not be seen then wash out in the fluid but least it was found thanks for sharing
