We just discovered Sonlight LA this year and I'm really liking it. We've struggled for years with TGTB and my kids were just so done with it (and so was i) so we tried Sonlight. The readers themselves are worth their weight in gold. My only complaint is that it's very mom heavy. I already gave myself permission to skip where we need to(particularly the busy work or games if we don't have time). We don't do a 4 day school week, I've just never been able to get that much in so we just kind of split it up through a couple weeks or cram it all in a couple days. It's interesting to see the difference between the different levels. For reference, I'm currently schooling 3 kids and using LA 1 and 3

I keep getting distracted by your bookcase behind you because it looks as though we have the exact same reading tastes ♥

Super interesting to hear about your LA!! ✏️ ✏️ ✏️

We have been on a very similar journey with my 11yo son who is also a struggling speller!! We recently stopped LOE Essentials and are in AAS Level 2 as well!! I’m really hopeful that the more dedicated spelling practice helps him!! We’re also using Michael Clay Thompson for grammar, which he loves!!! And Writing & Rhetoric, which he really enjoys, but I’m just not sure it’s enough support for him… I’m debating about trying IEW, but I just don’t know!! 😣

We do dictation with Build Your Library and per Emily Cook’s recommendation, I do the sentence as copywork on Day 1. Then on Day 2, we talk about any tricky words. When I was using LOE, we would mark the word and talk about its spelling. Now that we’re using AAS I’m planning on building the word with the tiles and talking about phonograms, spelling rules, syllable types, etc! Then on Day 3, I would do a “spelling test” where I would quiz him on just those tricky words. Then on Day 4, he would do the entire dictation. I actually feel like dictation has been really helping him!!

Always love following along with your homeschool journey!! 😍

Sorry for all the questions, but we have been doing the level 2 readers for Bookshark. It looks like on sonlight's website, these kind of overlap with the level 2 and level 3 readers. I'm wondering how your kids are enjoying having almost all of their readers be historical fiction now that they are in level four.

Maybe I missed this, but how much time does this take you and him on an average day?
