Tune Your 12 String Guitar [Easy Way]

This is the easy and intuitive way, by tuning the strings in the order of 1 through 12. The guitar used was tuned with extreme precision and double-checked. The sound was compressed in order to give the player a lengthier tone, which makes tuning easier.

I've heard this, but I have an acoustic Ovation 12 string. It has always been tuned to standard pitch. I prefer playing it that way. The neck is as straight as an arrow. Never a problem. I haven't even had to adjust the action on this guitar. It plays like a dream. It's not going anywhere. I'm keeping this until they carry me away. 23 years of service!!!! Maybe this is a rarity, but it's the only experience I have with an acoustic 12 string. I also have an electric Danelectro 12. I use it the same way. 7 years with me and no issues to date.

Excellent.
No talking needed. The way a video like this should be done

I haven't played over 35yrs. Thank you for this easy step. No long talking just straight to the cords. Time to start playing again. Cut the nails and suffer the burning of the fingertips all worthwhile 😉

I hadn't turned my 12 string in years. And I do mean decades! This video was the best in my opinion. Thanks.

I have a vintage YAMAHA split back acoustic12 string that I used to play with only 6 strings on it as I am very tall and have large hands .
The extra wide frett board was perfect for me as I used to mute out other strings on a regular six string neck.
I have wanted to put the 12 strings back on for my grand kids to play, but never knew how to get the two strings at the right octave.
Thanks for the tips as that guitar is in mint shape for being almost 50 years old and always had six strings on it.

I tune my 12 by first tuning the low E string with a tuner, then tuning its companion string by ear, using the tuned low string as reference. Then following with the A, D, G, B and high E strings the same way.
Very quick and very easy.

This was very helpful. I'm relatively new to 12-strings and this simplified the tuning process after a string change. Now I spend more time playing!

I purchased my Gibson 12 string new in 1967 ... have always tuned it down one step and kept a capo on fret #2. Took pressure off of neck which is still straight and sound ...

Great! Most tune videos are about playing their favorite songs, showing off or talking.

Still back to this vid after many times… great help, thank you!!! I actually tune down whole step but this works with capo on 2nd fret.

Do you know how long it takes to tune a 12-string?

No one does.

I spend half my time tuning my 12-string and the other half playing out of tune.

Are the unison strings tuned a little off? I've been looking for one that does this.

I got anxiety from the high e on a regular guitar, but that damn g4 is a thing of nightmares.

Could you do a video 12 string vs 6 string.
