This video shows you how to make a simple, yet handy lashed stand. All you really need to make it is dowel rods (or sticks) and some twine.

The stand has a ton of uses, we use these as hot pads on the table.

Enjoy the video!

I appreciate how you start the clove hitch. That’s the way we teach Scouts to start lashings.👍🏽

I noticed that when you do the diagonal bracing, the resulting brace is beneath the dowels, which means that with time and use on a hard surface, the brace twine will wear against the hard surface. I think that if you reverse the orientation of the 3 clove hitches you secure the brace with you will get a a brace which is above the thick dowels but below the flooring dowels, which will not rub against the surface below and therefore wear better with age. I'm not 100% sure that the hitching will still work if you reverse the orientation, can you clear it up for me? I'm going to make one of these tomorrow anyways, so I suppose I can work it out for myself, but I'd be curious to hear more about it anyways.

Couldn't the extra you trimmed off have been used for the bracing?
Just twist them over each other where they meet then tie ends to opposite corners.
