After months of speculation about the state of their marriage, Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck in Los Angeles on Tuesday without an attorney. NBC’s Chloe Melas looks back at a timeline of their relationship.

I like JLo. I feel bad for her. This is just my take on what happened. At first, I was thinking, what is JLo doing with Ben so soon after her engagement with A-Rod was called off? Remember him? I think she did it because appearance is everything to JLo, and she couldn't be humiliated that ARod cheated on her. So she quickly attached herself to unsuspecting Ben. But he's not so innocent here eitiher. I do think she also had her heart broken by Ben. I think he ended his engagement with JLo back in 2004 because he fell in love with Jennifer Garner while filming Daredevil. JLo reattached herself to Ben to get back at ARod and to switch the story. Media went crazy with the Bennifer reunion. Mission accomplish. JLo spent so much time and money proving her relationship with Ben, and I think Ben got tired of it. It's not him. He said as much. A big part of the reason he wasn't happy with his relationship with JLo back in 2004 was because of the media attention. But this time Jen had something to prove. That this was her happily ever after. And Ben's probably wondering why, if we're so happy, why this production with a movie and an album? She tied her relationship into her work. And Ben wasn't here for it. But I think they also both suffered a little from "what could have been." It's usually better not to look back. There's usually a reason it didn't work out the first time. While JLo got back together with Ben for all the wrong reasons, I was still hoping it would work for them. If JLo learns anything from this. I hope it's that she knows that it's okay for things not to work out. It's life. You don't have to look like life is perfect and everything is always going your way. You're JLo. You're the GOAT despite what's going on with your relationships. Appearances aren't everything. The people who really love you, will love you regardless. People will probably love you even more for being real about it. And that it's okay not to be with anyone. It's a sign of strength not to be codependent on someone else for your happiness. That your happiness comes from you. I think they are mature adults. I don't think this will be a dirty divorce. Which is why they had no prenup and she filed with no lawyers. I wish them both well.
