A surprise hydrothermal explosion in Yellowstone national park has sent sightseers running for safety, after steam, rock and dirt shot high into the sky.

No injuries were reported, but the Biscuit Basin area was closed for visitor safety after the falling rocks damaged a boardwalk that keeps people off Yellowstone’s fragile and often dangerous geothermal areas.

A reminder of us living on a geologically active planet, and of this area being on top of an active super-volcano... I remember having walked on that same plank. The people closest were lucky.

It's a miracle nobody got injured

Superheated steam. I’d run with a bit more urgency.

In the original video, they go back to the crater and see that the wooden floor and the railings have been swept away by the explosion... The tourists were very lucky!

Survival instinct is seriously lacking. Do they know what they're standing on?

Went there for all the right reasons....it was absolutely stunning....it was dangerous just being on the walk paths with no railings battling millions tourists to not get knocked off into the thermal pools and acidic land!! I would never go back.

Why are people in these types of videos always the most annoying and the ones without an appropriate sense of urgency? You're literally at risk of getting burns from super hot steam and/or water, SO FREAKING RUN!

In such an event I think it is natural to underestimate how much danger you might be in. I think those who have seen what can happen would have run faster, or even actually moved.

Better than any fairground ride, run!

it's amazing to see how calm everyone is about the whole. Yellowstone is a GIANT CALDERA. Eventually it's gonna give, ...

THEN WHAT?

Why were people dragging their feet and standing around gawking when they should be running as fast as they can!!

People, slow to start running, and slow to run, and poor voicing of danger, poor communication. Why are people going out of their way to play this "small hydrothermal explosion" down?

In Indonesia, folks will just see it and continue on what they're doing..

Are they running from what happened or do they think that the volcanoes getting ready to explode because the reactions should be vastly different. People in Ohio aren't going to outrun Yellowstone vulcanic explosions
