What caused the Yellowstone geyser explosion?

A sudden geothermal explosion at #Yellowstone National Park on Tuesday sent tourists, including adults and small children, running from flying rocks and debris.

I love how they just stared at it before they started slowly walking away, before finally running.

Worked there in’72 and that area was active for the first time in several years according to the rangers that talked to us as employees. I want to say the number of years was 50, but I may not be remembering accurately.
