The city of San Diego is moving forward with a lawsuit against Scripps Health, alleging a mentally ill, elderly patient was illegally discharged for financial reasons. CBS 8 has been investigating several reports of alleged patient dumping by local hospitals.

The patient, identified in court records as J.N is in his late 60s. He was admitted to Scripps Mercy Hospital’s behavioral health unit in 2019, according to the lawsuit.

The city of San Diego doesn’t have enough “tools” for hospitals or other providers to use and now wants ER staff to fix the homeless crisis in this city. That’s rich. (Notice he didn’t end up in San Diego) he was “offloaded” to another city.

The hospital don't care about the disabled, or homeless people, or elderly people.

I had two very sorry experiences at Scripps Hospital in Hillcrest. First a doctor claimed she lost my lab tests. I complained because what if I had a serious illness and this doctor was not doing the job right. The second experience I had a problem in a toe and the Doctor didn't want to do anything she was very straight forward and said I will not touch your toe!. What kind of physician are these! And I do not have a psychiatric problem I could imagine how difficult and frustrating it must be for the people that are dealing with much serious situations and the doctors are acting in such ways

When you can't pay, Scripps Health will throw you away.

Decades ago Mercy Hospital was very nice. The nursing staff were the Sisters of Mercy. Actual nuns. They were honestly kind to me there as a child. Many yrs later after the hospital was sold, my experience was there efficient and cold. It was a repair shop sort of feeling.

This doesn't surprise me, with Covid cases I experience how fast tracking these hospital cases were processing patients. They were so quick to change their patients codes (term they used to end the patient's life in a legal matter). This billion dollar industry only tries to get money but not actually help those in medical need.

Don't ever question why people with mental health diagnosis's hate treatment again! We get shamed if we don't seek help and when we do the diagnosis is called an excuse!

It’s not just scripps, sharp does it too. Sending disabled, mentally unstable patients to group homes or “crisis houses” when it’s clearly not going to work. They just end up back at the hospital in the behavioral health department and the cycle repeats, if they don’t die first.

Scripps doesn’t have enough drs to service the city of San Diego! I have had to wait for days to get a local Primary Care Physician! It is likely that Scripps is imploding, and this lawsuit does not help!

Oregon State did something similar to a schizophrenic friend of mine a couple years ago

Left him at a bus station with $10, after 2 years of being committed He was and still is totally dysfunctional

there are plenty of homeless shelter in town. or they could have called the Hot Team with the SDPD. They always have beds available. But, for a hospital to do this is a disgrace.
