Sony A8H OLED 4K HDR TV Review | Better but cheaper?

Sony's OLED TV lineup has gotten a little confusing. The A8H replaces the A8G, but looks more like a new flagship model while last year's A9G still exists with the Master Series badging. Aside from not offering center speaker mode, the A8H actually appears to be a superior model, with a black-frame insertion feature for smooth motion and a more flexible stand which can sling low, or raise to accommodate a sound bar. What else is different? And will Sony hold on to our best TV of the year spot? Without HDMI 2.1, that seems unlikely, But we could get surprised. Here is our Sony A8H review.

I got my Sony A8H Yesterday as a early birthday gift and let me tell you last night I was blown away I never had a TV look like it was One of the displays from Best Buy but in your home I mean I couldn’t believe what I was seeing I watch so many reviews from AG9 to A8H and how they say how amazing these TVs are but when you get it and have it in your home these guys are damn right like I said I couldn’t believe what I was seeing it was so realistic clear by far this is the best TV I ever had and this is not even A9G.😱

You're my number 1 TV reviewer by far. Your reviews are well balanced and in the end you leave it up to the audience to choose which one is best for their tv viewing experience. Keep up the fantastic work Caleb.

Originally i planned on buying the LG A1 65" for $1599 but Best Buy just lowered the 2020 model Sony A8H 65" price to $1499, and I had a $250 Best Buy Gift Card so i pulled the trigger. My first OLED!! I'm upgrading from a $228 Walmart ONN 65" 2020 Black Friday special so the difference should be striking. The out of the box color, 120Hz motion, Android TV interface, 100+ more nits (brightness) than the LG A1 and of course the perfect black levels sold me on the Sony A8H. Arrives tomorrow. Can't wait!

I ended up getting this on amazon for 1300. Honestly I like the gaming features in the LG but I went with this for the price-quality and the fact I mostly game on PC on my 144hz 1440p monitor.

Have this - almost three weeks. Wanted this over the A8G because I wanted eArc for Atmos. I can tell you this TV is the most amazing TV picture that I've ever seen. Our Planet on Netflix looks 3D because of how much depth the picture has. Can't recommend this enough!

It makes me sad that some people buy large size screen TVs with terrible screen quality, and then brag about the size.

It's now been a year since I purchased this TV. Great TV other than the fact that it randomly turns off. I have turned off sleep mode, called Sony on a couple of occasions and nothing has worked. Pretty annoying actually. Apparently it may be due to the fact that the power cord seems to have a design flaw in my case where it does not seem to fully plug in.

The A8H has been on sale the last couple of days for $1, 799, which makes this a no brainer.

Hey, Iv watched alot of your videos from years ago to now, and I enjoy your details you give. One thing I would like you to compare is the motion on the A8H, vs. LG CX or GX

I bought one on the last day of the sale for $1799. The very next day it went up to $2499. I’m very happy I caught that deal. Can’t wait to see it when it gets delivered.

Bought an LG CX last week and loving it. Me and my son are gamers so it was an easy choice.

When he said he needs to see the vizo before he decides, that was a hilarious joke. Brought a tear to my eye

I still don’t know how the biggest difference between HDMI 2.0 and 2.1…I mean I have the A8H and I also use it with my PS5, my friend has the X90 for gaming, I checked all these 2 screens with gameplay on PS5, my conclusion is it is really hard to find the difference, especially the flash rate. Didn’t found any difference, but A8H definitely has better black image performance.

I'm a video file nutt and I'm so astonished with the picture quality. Even with my 4k upscaling of DVD's I'm amazed. Wish it had more HDMI ports.

Caleb is hilarious - great sense of humor. As for the video format I think it's excellent and I think for many consumers it's what they are looking for from Digital Trends. Also he gives an honest opinion when looking at comparing TVs and then it's up to us to decide which way we want to go if ready to buy one. Or as he said - we wait until further reviews on the other brands new to OLED in order to then make a more informed decision - which I'm sure will come down to cost as a main contributing factor. I will stick with my amazing Panasonic 65 GZ1000 as the picture processing rivals Sony and I'm able to tweak the hell out of it. Not to mention I like it better cosmetically. Too bad Panny decided months ago to now stop selling TVs in Canada. What a bummer. Keep it going

And why your not mention very bad near dark scenes uniformity and banding on A8H?
