How to make the left slanting increase known as M1L, or make one left.

Your pattern will tell you, otherwise you can do whichever you prefer. If you were to knit a triangle shawl from the bottom up, and didn't want to do the common yarn over increase at the beginning of each row, you could do the M1R as an option
