Why You Should Document Your Life on Video

It's been a big, weird, scary and exciting year for me and it's time to start unpacking it all. This is the video I tried to finish before I left town almost exactly 6 months ago, but it's come full circle now in a way that ended up making a better video as a whole.

Go pick up a camera, or an old camcorder, or heck even your phone, and hit record. As long as you do it for you—and future you—to enjoy, that's really all that matters. Cheers, and more videos to come

It's almost weird how someone I don't know, who lives in a different country, with a different culture and all... can create a video that is so relatable! Got some good memories from my childhood with this one! Thanks man!

I forgot that I could document my life and not share it with anyone else but maybe just to my partner in life and to my family. Immortalizing it is such a great way to put it

I absolutely agree. I am 54 and I have been filming my life since I was 14 years old and I have kept every single photo and every second of footage. From this footage I have made multiple films - The Barham Warriors, Planet X, Trinket Crumpler, Thursdaddy, Honey Moon Safari plus many more. Every time I create a film I invite everyone who was in it and their friends to come and see it and the results are always the same. Tears, laughter and joy.

I hope you go on to enjoy many more years of filming your life because for me it has brought endless joy. Well done. Just subscribed.

I have this weird feeling of "doing something wrong" everytime I think of documenting aspects of my life nowadays, even though I want to and wouldn't have to share with anyone. It's weird, feels like being on the internet leaves us too exposed already. But again, I want to, so I'm making an effort. Congrats on making this amazing, emotional video!

This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my YouTube channel 9 months ago about self development. Now I have 1, 299 subs and > 1, 000 hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I could haven’t learned without getting started in the 1st place.

My dad used to record & take pictures of every waking moment of my life wherever we go. I used to find that annoying but in hindsight it was the best thing. Being able to see what life was like before I can remember it my own.

Walter Mitty : To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer, to find each other, and to feel. That is the purpose of life.

This short film provided the encouragement I needed. I document so much of my life, but I don't synthesize it, and I'm embarrassed to share it sometimes. This was a reminder that I can create just for me, and how fun the thought is!!

Bro, this seriously brought some tears to my eyes. It's so funny how you think you're the only one and then see someone literally doing and saying all the stuff you've been trying to do yourself. I'm happy to see you crossing the next threshold for all of us man. I really love your creative edits, with the pausing of narration to real talking footage, and resuming while you're across sea's already to round things out. Excellent touch.

I don't even know where to start but this video really brought up some emotions... I loved the intro with you showing the videos your dad made of you when you were small and its true, in some way these videos from my parents feel more vivid and real than any memories I have of myself as a child, I definitely plan on doing the same. Great aesthetically pleasing and inspiring video, best of luck to you in the future, you have some real talent!

I don’t have any footage of me when I was younger other than performing in a play since filming outside of those events was not a thing when I was younger. Your video made me realize how precious the footage I have of my children are and how I should spend the hours and hours of time it will take to make them into videos. Great storytelling, video editing, and your footage of your travels are beautiful! Looking forward to more!

Every couple of months I watch a video, where I know I need to rewatch it again the next day to experience it in a different frame of mind ... this was one of those my friend. I got into making videos here too to help people but also because of documentation as well. Phenomenal execution Sean!

This was incredible. Growing up, I had an uncle that had a camcorder that was used at all of my birthday parties and holiday events that my family put on. I used to re-watch those moments again and again growing up, getting to re-live those experiences, but also cementing them into my memory with a clarity not afforded by my memory alone. I'll have to look into digitizing those old VHS tapes before they degrade beyond salvaging. It's nice to look back on, for the memories, but also to see what it was like to record the moments we genuinely cared about and get lost in those memories.
Even here on YouTube, I find that the videos my friends posted way back in the late 00's are some of my favorite to go back to. It's not because they have good cinematography or edits, just because it's a great way to remember a moment in my life with more clarity. Thank you so much for this, I really needed it today.

11/10 video content! wow!! Thank you for your beautiful reflections and your incredible power of documenting. I feel like it helped me process parts of the pandemic I didn't even realize I still had in me. I loved watching this. GO SEAN GO!

Wow. I felt this. Was just thinking about how I miss my passion for this. The days turned into weeks, into years and we feel left behind…and then to work on finding ourselves again. Picking our cameras up again. Remembering why we are so passionate and getting back to it. Thank you so much for creating this beautiful visual journey that I can so relate to on a deep level.

The thing with watching documentaries is that they even put your own memories in a new perspective. Thank you!

The experience of seeing yourself on your home tv / camera I feel like was really profound especially in that time period of the 90s... I think it shaped a lot of us I really love your style and storytelling chops. Keep up the great work.
