The New York Times took an interesting angle earlier this month when they released a video titled: “Liberal Hypocrisy is Fueling American Inequality” with YouTuber, Johnny Harris.

In this special episode of Making the Argument, Nick Freitas reacts to Johnny Harris’ takedown of Blue State America.

If Blue State residents are consistently refusing to live by the value they claim to support at the ballot box, perhaps the real issue is their policies?

As someone From Norway it was funny seeing you struggle with the idea of housing being A right, i think he did a poor job of flushing out what he meant by that . But your reaction to that is actually what I expected from an average American who hasn’t traveled Abroad when It comes to social policies that someone from Scandinavians wouldn’t even blink twice about it. I used to admire America until I actually visited the country and realised America is actuality A worse place than my own country.

This guy is exactly what the video is about and it’s not just democrats, a privileged white male who thinks a lot of nice things, but actively wants to lock people out of a better life because he doesn’t want to share or make room for anyone because it would affect his standing and privilege. He thinks he worked to get where he is but in actuality 100% he benefited from the system discussed.

When Appelbaum says that kids in an impoverished neighborhood are at a "permanent disadvantage", I don't believe he's suggesting we won't see examples of those children rising above such a deficit. Instead, I hear him speaking in aggregate - that on the broad scale, it is very much atypical for kids to reach escape velocity from those conditions. I've heard this from army recruiters, (who have to fill jobs across an enormous range of pay scale and competency requirements), who say they can pretty much tell you if a candidate will make it based on their zip code. Work has been done showing that this is indeed a causal relationship.

Edit: - Shelter is a basic human need for survival. Given that, housing is generally considered a human right as is air, food, water, etc.

They failed to mention the astronomical sales tax in WA that is a huge hit to people living paycheck to paycheck.

The end of this video seem like you want the video to be about what you believe and not what the video was about. The video is literally about that Democrats/Blue states are NOT (I repeat, are NOT) doing the policies that are based on the values they claim to be for.
Instead they are actually doing Right Wing policies based on self interest(selfishness) in real estate, taxation, and education. So they are saying the Blue states are the problem because they don't do implement Left based policies. Hence the HYPOCRISY.

A lot of people seem to not understand the reason for the difference in conservative vs liberal values.

It is merely one’s upbringing and surroundings that shape it. Yes, there are outliers and changes in thinking but on the whole it is one’s upbringing.

Rural conservatives believe in small government because they live and exist without much government involvement. Meanwhile, urban liberals live and exist with more government involvement.

A liberal says take a train or buy an EV because those work in dense urban areas. A conservative says take a gas truck because that’s what needed to support the lifestyle in the countryside.

A conservatives who has grown up with guns thinks they’re tools no different from a shovel because that’s their lived experience. A liberal who has never held a gun thinks they’re the cause of mass death because that’s the experience.

Conservatives don’t trust government and liberals don’t trust people. But our government is the people, so both conservatives/liberals are right.

I still don't get why property values are so sacrosanct to these people. I have encountered people from both sides not wanting affordable housing near their homes simply becuase their houses will depreciate in value.

No wonder why the Singaporean and Japanese housing systems are appealing to so many nowadays.

I agree in his argument of the "permanent in nature" regarding a person's disadvantage.
I think a more apt way to express it is instead viewing it through the lens of the odds of removing that disadvantage. And the odds trend towards 0 both over time, and under varying circumstances.
There's no debate I think that certain neighborhoods start ALL children being born there behind the 8-ball. No question. But while they all trend towards 0, each individual has varying degrees of odds on the chances to remove that disadvantage.

Well they are saying that the policies are not set according to democratic values. Not that the policies are being followed but not working.

The human rights to me are:
access to healthcare. Pay/free. Access to is the point

Access to vernacular education. (Education in the language you understand) this also includes education in religious text.

Access to safe/clean food and water

Access to a safe home: no lead, asbestos, etc

30:00 good point but you're talking to the air -- that's a completely different idea of a video than this one

edit: unfortunately you got stun locked and the remaining video you're talking about a completely different video than what this one's purpose is

I watched the NYT video first, and then found your video with commentary. It was nice to hear your perspective.

In the NYT video, the presenters seem to argue the root cause of the problems are "liberals not living their values".

However, you rightfully point out that the root cause may be the policies, which should be reevaluated. And the typical liberal philosophy that government is the only solution.

The concept of the video by Johnny Harris’ titled: “Liberal Hypocrisy is Fueling American Inequality” is good but severely under-researched, takes way too little time to breakdown mammoth and herculean issues like housing, education and taxation, with a rather triggering and over-sensationalized title. Its almost a click-bait and data shown seems cherry picked.

It is exciting to see liberals FINALLY asking questions which should ultimately end up doing what you say, how do we initiate policy that leads to the actual outcome they want. Unfortunately, their answer of late is to disassociate themselves from these people who question them, cancel, and double down on their already failing current policies. Not to mention the fact that the direction they want to go is usually toward ruin and overarching control, rather than individual freedom and responsibility. 😞
