Hi, thank you for your great video, I have a question though, why do we need the oppo player in the first place ? Why not just plug it to the receiver itself ?

Can you do a comparison between zooming in and an anamorphic stretch? Is the resultion and the light output really noticable? Which anamorphic lens would you reccomend?

I have the “Poor Man’s Anamorphic Setup” which is the zoom Method with my Panasonic AE8000u and 150” Screen.. 😀.

Of course when you watch an imax film your it fills you screen no black bars you get the best of both worlds as an imax film uses takes up the black bars with picture

Ive watched this a few times & I’m trying to make sure I’m following. I recently picked up an Oppo 203. Will this feature allow you to take any 16:9 content from the Appletv & convert into 21:9??? For example, i use Directv Now from my Apple TV... that content is always going to be in 16:9 for live tv (i.e sports) .. so i bought a 16:9 screen b/c i didn’t want black bars on the sides if i had bought a 2:35:1 screen. In the one still shot of Superman in 16:9, you press the zoom button & it fills the entire screen. We also watch a ton of movies so i was really torn on the screen aspect ratio to purchase but if I’m following this work around, i could have had the best of both worlds with an Anamorphic lense & 2:35:1 screen????

Great video Shane! Quick question please about HDR10 bit rate. I have apple tv 4k connected to Onkyo receiver, which is contacted to Benq projector ht3550. When I force HDR 60hz on apple tv (match content/rate Off), and play HDR movie on disney+ for example, I see my onkyo statistics showing 4.2.0 30 bits 59hz. However, if I turn the match content "On" in apple tv, The onkyo states showes 4.2.2 24 bits 23.9 hz. In both use cases my benq projector shows BT2020 color space. I am confused why I get 24 bits (lower color depth) when I turn Match On? Thanks

Hi Shane, I am a huge fan of the channel! Thanks for all of the great UHD reviews. I have one question that I am hoping you can answer. I have the apple tv 4k plugged via hdmi to my sony str-nd 1080 receiver. I do not have an Oppo player, is there any way to get Atmos? All I get is LPCM 5.1. Is there any other device that would allow Atmos passthrough on the Apple TV 4K? I also have a sony ubp-x700 if that makes a difference. Please help!

So, Shane, with your new set up (Panasonic UB9000 and NX-7) how do you make tv, movie and streaming content display in the anamorphic format? I am having a tough time deciding what to get for a projector, screen, player and lens. I only have a 12 ft throw distance and want a 150 inch display curved anamorphic.

is Atmos worth it Shane? Debating between a Denon 3400h 7.1 or 4400h 9.2 receiver.

I probably have 50 UHD discs, an Epson 5040ub, dual SVS PB2000's....but a CXA80 receiver....(my audio journey started in stereo) I have listened to a 5.1 setup and thought it sounded great, but am uncertain if Atmos is a diminishing returns experience.

Well im gonna get a projector soon but since im A big IMAX Fan I will get an 16:9 screen and I will cover the black bars up with black painted wood planks or something like that when im watching 2.40:1 movies

So youre creating a loop that decodes the Atmos in the receiver then sends the video back through the oppo?

Hi SpareChange. Could we tone map Dolby Vision from iTunes (via Apple TV 4K) to SDR thanks to Oppo two last 4K players - to view them on projectors that natively have low contrast ratio?

Why don't use a HDMI splitter? One goes to the Oppo and the other to the AV Amp/Receiver. No need to have the Oppo constantly on ;)
