Durga Puja meets Irish Mythology: Behala Natun Dal in Kolkata celebrates 75 years of diplomatic ties

Ahead of the WB’s iconic Durga Puja, Behala Natun Dal in Kolkata is all set to host a first combination of Irish-Indian Durga Puja. Irish-Indian artists have jointly created an idol of Maa Durga along with Irish Goddess Danu. The Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi has taken this initiative to celebrate the 75th anniversary of India-Ireland diplomatic relations. The Behala Nutan Dal Durga Puja pandal features a sculpture of Goddess Danu from Irish mythology, created by Irish artists, and displayed.

Danu (Sanskrit: दनु, IAST: Danu) is a Hindu primordial goddess. She is mentioned in the Rigveda to be the mother of the eponymous race known as the danavas. The word Danu described the primeval waters that this deity perhaps embodied. In later Hinduism, she is described as the daughter of the Prajapati Daksha and his spouse Panchajani, and the consort of the sage Kashyapa.

My fellow Bengalis have turned Durga Puja into a circus these last one or two decades. I am all for creativity and experimentation with artistic expression but at least keep the core puja away from it. At least use such idols and props as decor, but not as the main vigrahah to do prana pratishtha on and which is actually to be worshipped.
Furthermore, for people who reject anything other than the christ's father as god, inviting them itself is a sin. Durga is as much real as the god of christianity but these folks will never reciprocate that. When christianity spread across europe it kept on invalidating the indigenous faiths and their divine figures. These guys don't even think our deities exist let alone view them as divinity. They have no respect for Danu, calling her mythical, let alone Durga. Do you think these people are doing it out of devotion? No. They are doing it as a garden project like "draw your own pokemon". This is an insult to jagajjanani herself.
That's one pandal to not visit this year.

Danu is the goddess of danavas, asuras . She is not our mother Durga ❤❤❤ any at all . Love their interest but this Goddess, but obviously we are not allowed to follow or worship her .
