I love these tips, even maby adults can use them.

I went undiagnosed for ASD for 30 years, trying to adapt to eye contact myself and helping my more severe child do so- Some tips that may or may not work;
Glancing up at least, to look at someone's face while they are talking, and the idea that they can look at someone's head/another "visual target" instead of eyes.

We just started asking about favorite and least favorite things for the weekend. It didn't even cross my mind to ask everyday. 🥺 We ask them what they would like doing the same/again, and what they would like to do differently. (For our special needs age 11 this is still a struggle but he's talking a lot more!)

Self-regulation is so vital! That and boundaries. I have looked into CBT and DBT methods for various issues, it's helped teach me how to teach them those things. And of course the Bible has those lessons! ❤ I'll definitely be looking into the book mentioned here.

Thanks so much! Working on all! Plus manners. Didn’t realize since we home school how bad their eating rude was.

Great information! We homeschool but I have a family member who thinks homeschooling should be illegal and her main reason is "socialization". She is the most poorly socialized person I know so it's comical 😂

I myself am working on emotional regulation and my youngest struggles with impulse control & emotional regulation. Thank you so much for the tips. It's a catch 22 trying to teach a child who struggles when I also have the same problem. I've definitely improved but still have a ways to go.

We have a friend issue. They all moved! We can make friends but they have moved. There were literally 10 kids in the neighborhood and they ALL moved to different states. All military families. None moved in 🤦‍♀️. My younger daughter can slip into any situation and be happy. My other daughter not so much She’s 15 and we haven’t gotten her a cell phone. We all want them to have more friends There are almost no homeschooling families in our age group. Struggling now. We go to church and she doesn’t want to be in the youth group. She’s a quiet girl and VERY intelligent. Very much like my husband. Idk. Guess I’m venting now lol
