SHIELDED METAL ARC WELDING

SMAW is a welding process that involves creating an arc between a coated electrode and the workpiece. The electrode's core is made of metal, and it's coated with a flux material that provides several functions during the welding process.

As the arc is struck, the heat generated melts both the electrode and the base metal, creating a weld pool. At the same time, the flux coating on the electrode melts and forms a protective gas shield and slag layer over the weld zone. This shield prevents atmospheric contaminants from reacting with the molten metal, ensuring a cleaner and stronger weld.

This process is widely used in industries such as construction, fabrication, maintenance, and repair due to its portability, simplicity, and ability to work in challenging conditions. It's a popular choice for manual welding tasks where precision and control are important

[10/08, 4:01 pm] Abhinav T.EN: Tungsten inert gas welding, also known as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), is a welding process that joins pieces of metal together through a welding current. An inert gas is supplied to the welding torch that flows along the welding arc to protect the metals from oxidation and from forming small circular gaps. A tungsten electrode is assembled within the welding torch, which has a higher melting point than most metals

Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding uses the heat generated by an electric arc struck between a non-consumable tungsten electrode and the workpiece to fuse metal in the joint area and produce a molten weld pool.

TIG welding is most often performed when joining pipes and thin materials. This is thanks to its low heat input, which preserves the microstructure of the metals.

Flux cored arc welding uses heat generated by an electric arc to fuse base metal in the weld joint area. This arc is struck between the metallic workpiece and the continuously-fed tubular cored consumable filler wire, with both the wire and the metallic workpiece melting together to form a weld joint.
FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding) is also known as "dual shielded welding, " operates by combining the benefits of both flux-generated shielding and an additional shielding gas. The flux inside the tubular electrode melts to create internal shielding gases, while an external shielding gas is introduced to further protect the arc and weld pool.
