Yesterday's news said a rocket was launched to intercept an asteroid, just as an experiment to see if it's really possible to knock it off it's path. Now, could this be NOT just an experiment, but actually the REAL THING?!?

What if the "craft" that crashes into the asteroid does not have enough mass and kinetic energy to make a noticeable difference in the numbers? If so, this does not mean that a larger and/or more powerful "craft" would also fail. However, this method 'may' reveal wheather or not it is practical for us to persue this course of action.

As mentioned in a movie or 2 before. If the density is the same it would shatter into a million pieces but if it's got 2 different densities then we are in big doo doos or deep trouble. So if we could measure it or tow it out of the way it would be better so nudging will work for now.

BTW, let's not forget that destruction can occur in two ways and a BIG astroid isn't necessary. U can have a big one moving relatively slowly or achieve the same destruction with a tiny one moving very fast, maybe too fast to hit even or detect in time.
