In this episode I review the Victorinox Fieldmaster Swiss Army knife. It's a great EDC for those looking to carry a small tool everyday. I go over the features a beginner DIY person would care about, including the secret pin hole, and saw through a 2x4 just to see if it can do it.

CHANNEL STATEMENT: This is a channel about my relationship with stuff. We all need to have a better relationship with the stuff in our lives - we have too much of it, and most of it’s junk. If nothing else I hope you take away with you an interest in the stuff in your life - a curiosity for how it’s made - why it’s good or bad - and perhaps even how build new stuff or fix what you’ve got. Having said that - the internet is a terrible place to learn anything. Unless you independently verify what you learn - you’ll never know if it was right or wrong or made up completely…. Unfortunately disinformation is both the currency and the bane of our era. I’m no expert in anything you’ll see here. I don’t want you to think that I am. Through my job I have access to people who are - and I’ve learned from them over the last couple of decades and become someone who is curious about stuff, brave about stuff , and foolish enough to try and make a youtube channel about my relationship with stuff all at the same time.

DISCLAIMER / PLEASE READ: In making this channel I will put more effort into making the content accurate, safe and correct than most - but that doesn’t mean I can’t be wrong. Accordingly I can’t guarantee or warranty any specific outcome for viewers should they attempt something similar to what they see on the channel. I encourage you not to copy projects you see here directly but build on them - discuss them with experts in your life, and make them better - make them work safely for you. We all need to figure out a better way to own stuff - this channel is meant to illustrate my experience with that, promote learning, have some fun, and challenge myself. Working with any tool or on any project can lead to unintended results - including injury and damage to property. Don’t work beyond your capability. In the same way I have to take complete responsibility for the outcome of my endeavours as recorded here, and my own safety and the safety of those around me - you have to do the same….. Use the information here at your own risk. Be safe, have fun, proceed with the appropriate caution for your situation….

Surprise! The toothpick is the most used tool on my knives! Maybe because I have teeth like stars, not so shiny but just as far apart!🤭 Thanks for the video.

I've just bought a Fieldmaster as it seems to give the best assortment of tools in a reasonably-sized knife. I didn't know about the pin hole though, so will definitely be raiding my wife's sewing kit for one of those!

The parcel hook is also a great spring installation/removal tool.

Really good video, excellent close-ups . I'm a meat eater and use the toothpick regularly. A 6mm magnet nests in the can opener, and can be used to magnify the straight pin or tweezers for a makeshift compass . Great knife !

The hook is useful for twisting wire. Also can be used to pick up those thin plastic grocery bags.

The Fieldmaster is my EDC of choice. I am thinking of getting plus scales, though.

The toothpick is very useful after eating an orange or popcorn!

Recently, I purchased the SAK huntsman. Looking to customize it in a few ways. First thing would be to add a sewing needle with some thread under the saw blade, and the straight pin. As for the tooth pick and/or picking ones teeth free of food particles after eating, I'll pass using it. Wooden tooth picks are a better option for those that still do it in private or public. I have used the SAK tooth pick for more of a light weight usage tool for placing tiny micro screws back in their deep hole slots, etc.

The pin can also be magnetized to make an emergency compass. Float it on some still water, or even just suspended it from a thread.

Regarding people not using toothpicks are restaurants anymore, I had no idea. Maybe it's a US thing? Or do you just wait until you get home to brush your teeth? I see toothpicks as something you can quickly use to get rid of something stuck in your teeth that is bothering you, before you have the chance to properly floss and brush them.
