Lava from a volcano is still flowing in southwestern Iceland, albeit at a slower pace. Saturday’s eruption caught locals and tourists off guard.

Fountains of lava are still spewing 48 hours since the initial eruption. Authorities have been putting out warnings since the last one in February, noting magma was accumulating near Reykjavik.

The peninsula has seen seven eruptions since 2021 after sitting dormant for about 800 years.

Kyle Benning has more.
