Do you all still enjoy using Instagram? Why or why not?

Note: Yes I previously used a similar film pic on a different upload this month but I went and changed that one. MY LIPS WERE GLOSSY AND IT’S A GOOD PIC.

I got rid of Instagram about two years ago. I didn't regret it. It's full of toxicity and narcissism.

I think that if the entire internet shut down permanently, we all would return to the blissful world of not knowing what everyone is thinking, feeling, and doing. We would actually need to talk on the phone or write letters to know all that kind of information.

Had to delete Instagram and Tiktok because so many people over share. The amount of negativity, lies, and trends you see everyday is exhausting. Tired of the “relationship coaches, course scams, same 5 second songs and dances. It gets exhausting at some point . Once I hear feminine /masculine energy, traditional women, high value man etc. I mentally checkout.

I like not knowing what people are up to. Being off Instagram made me realise I REALLY DON'T NEED TO KNOW.
And I honestly think in the past people genuinely felt happiness and enjoyment in life because they didn't have access to the lives and details about the billions of people from around the world. You only experienced your current setting/community/stage of life and had nothing outside of that to compare it to.

Call. It. Out. These trends are ruining unique personalities and characteristics. We should all take ownership of our own identities.

I heard a quote in a YT video once years ago which was "Trends are for the anxious". Completely changed my perspective on trends and how people try so desperately to keep up with them.

Honestly I use to feel a little similar about Instagram until I started to only fill my following and page towards my niche of people who fit my cultural ethnic group (African American women/African American community) centered on wellness, love, positivity, etc. Now I enjoy it because it reinforces the type of community I want to be around in real life around like-minded people who look like me.

let's not even talk about how social media has effected everyone's attention spans, ppl can't even sit through youtube videos anymore let alone read a book

Whenever I tell people I don’t have instagram or any social media they’re always so amazed lol. Like the act of deleting instagram is so horrific and unfathomable. It’s very interesting

I quit all social media in 2020 and I've never regretted it. Not being pressured to conform to standards on the other side of the world is so liberating. Its so weird that I constantly felt the need to be at the level of influencers who lived in a completely different environment and a completely different culture. Had to rewire my brain and now I'm happier than ever

I had to delete Twitter. People are so miserable on there I couldn’t handle it anymore.

As an elderly millennial content creator, i cannot begin to express my exhaustion with social media. Having experienced 2006 FB when it was all poking people and writing notes on walls and joining groups about how wonderful it was to step on crunchy leaves, this new era feels so hollow.

This is so weird, I have been saying the EXACT same things for years, each and every single point you made, to the people around me. They'd just laugh and had the argument that I was living under a rock whenever I wasn't up to date on trends. I've never had social media, was of the opinion that everyone started to dress the same, think the same, talk the same, LOOK the same (plastic surgery) I got so sick of it. I even got depressed thinking I'd never find a partner who isn't engaged in this nonsense. I turned off my phone, used my laptop for my entertainment, mail, ordering stuff etc, bought an MP-3 player and downloaded some lectures and audiobooks and went hiking. The amount of time I ended up having for chores and hobbies was insane.

I deleted all my social medias for about a year now and wow, what a difference it makes. Ive stopped caring and comparing, starting picking up new hobbies, and improved my communication skills. It truly felt like a big ol weight lifted off me.

Deleted instagram months ago and have never looked back. I just got so sick of caring about other people's lives, when I should only be focused on my own. The trends are so useless. Everyone just wants to play dress up and pretend they're rich, show off, photoshop themselves for validation. They just want your money anyway. No way am I going to give them my time and attention.

I got rid of my social media about 4 years ago because I went through a break up, and for my own peace of mind I wanted to have as little access to see what was going on in my ex’s life as possible. It was supposed to be temporary until I felt better about it, but it ended up being permanent for different reasons and I personally love it.
Pros:
-You don’t find yourself comparing
-You don’t waste time endlessly scrolling
-You live for yourself, and not to prove yourself in a post
-More present
-You’re not as exposed to influences, so you start thinking for yourself. You would be surprised how your mind changes
-You’re not searching for validation where it doesn’t matter

CONS:
-You become less relatable/don’t understand as many references or trends
-People think you’re a red flag for not having social media 😂

But so worth it!

I deleted my instagram a few days ago. I was tired of the constant fighing between men and women. I don't know how people think that is normal.

I deleted Instagram over two years old to preserve my peace of mind. I deleted it during the height of the George Floyd Protests when all of a sudden people recognized racism existed and pretentiously wanted to paint themselves as "allies." I fought and argued with these people. Then, I realized why get into arguments with people online who I don't care at all about my well-being so I deleted it. It is the best decision that I've ever made in my life. Kudos to you for deleting Instagram too! ❤
