It’s clear that Israel Adesanya and Dricus Du Plessis don’t like each other, but do you know why? Dricus said he wanted to be the first “real” African champion which Israel didn’t like, but 10 years before they had a sparring match where they both disagree on what really happened. All these years later, the drama unfolds as Israel got into the cage at UFC 290 after Dricus Du Plessis won over Robert Whittaker to have an insane post fight interview that would shock the UFC world, but this didn’t happen overnight. This is the full backstory of their beef.

I'm South African... Of European descent. My parents were born here... Most of my grandparents were born here and a bunch of my great grandparents were born here. There is a lot of political nonsense in this country about colonization and so on but the reality is... This is my home. The color of my skin doesn't have anything to do with the fact that no matter how much anyone wants to slice it... I'm African. I was born here and will likely die here. I've breathed the air my whole life... Played in the dirt as a kid, eaten the food, drank the water and been part of the culture. Dricus is right... And he, like me and most other non-radicalised South Africans who fall for the nonsense retoric of certain extreme and xenophobic politicians, we get on with each other just fine irrespective of our skin color, culture and language. If anything is what makes our country so amazing... It's diversity.

When DDP wins the belt, that belt wont visit Africa but will remain in Africa.

If Izzy felt like he was a true African then he wouldn’t be this butthurt about the whole situation and it’s that simple.

When Dricus first made reference of being the “real African champ” he was never bringing race into the situation. Rather he was stating how champs like Izzy, Usman etc abandoned Africa once it became convenient for them in advancing their careers. Dricus has simply stated that he is one of the few African-born ufc fighters who currently still lives, breathes, and trains in Africa. Never did dricus say “I’m blacker than you because I live in Africa.” Izzy is the one who has made this whole thing about race and has done so bc deep down he knows Dricus is right. Izzy is very insecure about the whole Africa situation. Izzy’s post-fight comments were embarrassing, but what’s more telling is that now all of a sudden Izzy is trying to claim Africa because he knows he left his people many years ago. It’s unfair that some are trying to paint dricus as a racist bc of this situation. Izzy can call dricus a ‘cracker’ and other names but no one will label him a racist. Izzy is the one who who is race-baiting and adding fuel to the fire.

Izzy lived in Africa until he was 10, then moved to New Zealand for 20 years. He’s more New Zealander than he is african. Dricus is way more African than izzy

All I am going to say is, when they do the announcement for dricus, they say:
"Born in south african, fighting out of south africa."
They can't say the same about the other 3. The first 3 celebrated their individual successes together by being the first african welterweight, middleweight and heavyweight champions but when a white dude says that he is going to be the first real african champ as in fighting out of africa and fully and exclusively representing africa, all shit gets loose.

Adesanya should apologize for what his ancestors did to other black people in Afrca. His ancestors was Yoruba tribe which lived from catching and selling slaves in Antlantic slave trade. Yoruba tribe even practice some types of slavery even in early 20 century. There is reasons why he had servents as kid in Nigeria.

I live in the same city as dricus and I know where they train, If a young South African kid(black white or indian) wants to follow in dricus footsteps and become a UFC fighter, he can go to the gym down the street and train with coaches who have produced UFC level fighters. This is possible because the talent is being cultivated here.
Izzy can go visit home with his belts but at the end of the day, many of his countrymen can't follow in his footsteps because that will require them to move to new Zealand first.

Why is it that DPP isn't African when he was born and raised there, but Jon Jones is considered American despite his african heritage?

Ngannou is certainly the exception and as he isn’t even in the UFC anymore I highly doubt DDP was even thinking of him.

Usman and Izzy, on the other hand, deserve everything DDP said. They left their home country. They left their people. They live, make money, and plant roots in other countries.

Are French people not French because part of their land used to belong to England?

Are Germans not German because many of them descend from when Rome conquered germanic tribes?

Do Cherokee not deserve their reservation land because it originally belonged to various other tribes?

No. This is a racist rule being applied only to white people and it needs to stop. DDP is the best African representation the UFC has seen and the other guys can’t handle that.

P.S. this is coming from a mixed race individual - the anti-white racism we see on display is awful.

Izzy likes new Zealand and China more than Nigeria. Leon Edwards told bisping he's the first real British champ and nobody went clown mode and hysterical over that. Straight toddler mind set.

DDP was in the wrong insinuating Izzy isn't a "real" African, altho he meant that in how Izzy represents New Zealand more than his African heritage, but still that statement comes off racist considering its colonial undertones. Izzy is in the wrong in how he's continuing to lean on the racist drama to build up the fight. Obviously you don't have to be black to be a true African. Ultimately tho, both of them are so painfully un-self-aware this whole race beef shit has gotten pretty cringey lol

Well by that logic no migrant is ever allowed to feel truly at home (when DDP himself isn't even a migrant). Great logic there Izzy, it's just mildly racist!

Isreal left Africa 23 years ago. When he 10, Izzy said the same thing to Robert Whittaker, Robert. Move To Australian has a kid, Izzy said he was real New Zealander and Robert is Māori too

African is not race, that is stupid. We consider Egypt, Morocco, Libya and the other northern Saharan people as African as well, and they are not black. Black does not mean African. And yes, for the most part South Africans consider Afrikaaners as Africans, we have road signs in Afrikaans, schools that teach in Afrikaans and towns and cities named in Afrikaans. The difference between the first European settlement in North America and the one in South Africa is literally 45 years (1607 vs 1652), so to say that Afrikaaners aren't African is then saying that America has no white Americans. And yes, apartheid happened and whatever the personal feelings are towards them doesn't discredit their nationality, it just means that we have racial tensions because of it, no different to when Americans have their own racial tensions due to historical atrocities like with slavery. Afrikaaners are South African. If i as a South African were to close my eyes and listen to an Afrikaaner talk in Afrikaans, or a black African American speak in their English, listening to the Afrikaaner would make me feel more at home, and that's what nationality is. Can y'all talk about your background and find common ground more than with other people.

Dricus was born in 1994 and Apartheid end it in 1991, it got nothing to Nigeria and Apartheid got nothing do with Dricus

Dricus identifies strongly with his African heritage. He sees it as an insult that others would tout their African heritage while leaving. I’m not saying he’s right or wrong, but it’s not about race it’s about an identity
