We have a look at how one is mounted and the advantages if in theater projection.
This type of install would be of particular interest to those converting a location not build for purpose, to a Cinema complex.

Its what the client wanted. Mot my choice, but I must admit, I know quote a few smaller country cinemas taking this option. 1/2 the price as a CP750 and also does video switching.
Its interesting, unlike the past with film, much of the kit in a projection room is based on commodity equipment now. So things are changing.

We found DCP-O-Matic this evening and succusfully encoded our first short clip. It worked quickly and easely the first time.       Now our drive in (theOcala Drive in in Ocala Florida) can ingest our preshow and intermission files and complely automate our shows.

My issue with the CP750 is that they run VERY hot. Make sure you mount them with ventiliation space above/below. I have seen them cook themselves otherwise.
Otherwise, I am not a fan of the older CP kit. You should be able to pick them up for free. Thousands are heading to the tip as digital is installed.
The newer CP750 era units tend to be much better then the older kit. They simply know how to make them better now with better Signal to noise ratios etc.
Otherwise I would recommend the AP20

No, to use a home Theater receiver, you would need to use an EAS to Analog converter and go into the receiver via Mulit-channel-inputs.
This is the typical way to do what your referring to.

Yes it is DCI. But yes, its unusual to see non-cinema grade audio in cinemas. The cinema wanted to do it. What are you to do.. They do seem to work ok.
I must admit, I have done a few sites with pro/domestic audio kit lately. They tend to only use them as video and audio switches. And use QSC amps, using the Integra or equivalent as a pre-amp only.

Why would you do this? I have heard of devices that do this but in general, if you have AES, you likely to be plugging it into something that takes AES. So AES to SP/DIF is not a common requirement.

Sounds good when said, but when the mom and pop theaters/drive-ins can't afford to convert to digital they go under. It's going to be a sad state of affairs after this year. RIP 35mm.

@GoMetricToday Think of it as an opportunity to brorden your skill base and move into a new career. The digital future will need staff too, just different skills are involved.
