Chet (John Candy) and Roman (Dan Aykroyd) do battle with a "sonar-guided rodent."

FILM DESCRIPTION:
In the John Hughes-scripted The Great Outdoors, John Candy stars as Chet Ripley, an oafish paterfamilias who takes his family on a vacation at a lakeside resort. Their enjoyment is seriously compromised when brother-in-law Roman Craig (Dan Aykroyd) shows up with his wife and kiddies. The rest of the film is an ongoing war between Ripley's carefree aggregation and Craig's obnoxiously prissy brood, and making things worse, a driving rainstorm forces both families to remain under one roof well-past their threshold of patience. Annette Bening makes her film debut as Aykroyd's ill-tempered wife.

I always loved the line when Buck says, “Dad, Keep your eye on the bat.” Pretty much the opposite from Little League when they tell the kids to keep their eye on the BALL, not the bat 😂😂

I've always loved this movie, it so perfectly epitomizes/ parodies every aspect of going on a Candian vacation (My family vacations up there in a really small lakeside town in Northern Ontario every summer). The only thing missing would have been a scene involving a fish fry.
Just this summer, my brother and I had an adventure similar to this one in our cabin, though instead of a bat, it involved a few hornets that had gotten into the cabin one night.
