RC Quick Tip: BLHeli32 ESC Current Sensor Setup in Betaflight

For 4.1 I had an issue with the Tekko 4 in 1 showing amp draw just as armed, a steady 24 amps, never changed. Also my battery readout in betaflight was way off. Beat my brains in trying to figure it out. Your video helped.


My fix, enable ESC sensor in configuration tab, select esc as input on uart 7 in ports tab. Then changed Current Meter in battery tab to ESC Sensor.

Thanks. This helped me get it working, however it doesn't seem accurate. I'm guessing that "current sense calibration" in bl_heli is how I adjust this, but wanted to be sure before I changed anything?

One Question: So in your case, where the ESC Current comes with the 8-pin cable from the ESC, you dont have to set the tab "sensor input" to ESC in the Ports -> UART-Table, right? because i have same configuration but there isnt an UART free. Only have RX1 /CRNT but it is not an Uart. But for me current reading does not work :(

Bu t I have one question, how can I know its acurate, because even without running the motors I have reading of about 5-16 amps consumption which is simply not makes sense. is there another setting in blheli for this ?

Old video yet i hope you can give me a clue. What can be the reason for my voltage reading being 7.4v at 4S while im using ESC Sensor for thet function? Im sure the batteries are ok and fully charged.

I'm trying to figure out how to get esc telemetry from single escs. I'm using a non aio fc with a pdb and single escs. The escs' red and black wires are connected to the pdb and the signal and ground twisted pair I've soldered to the signal pads on the fc and a common ground pad respectively. Is there anything else I need to wire up to get esc telemetry working?

What about using a digital current sensor for a flight controller such as the frsky f7 with built in rx?I'm using the lumener 50 x 4 4in1 which doesnt have a current sensor either, so I got a couple of the tbs digital current sensor laying around my bench .I defiantly can't hook into the current pad on the fc as it will fry the crap out of it, ask how I know.lol could I just wire into a spare rx uart?just trying to get the info to show in my osd.

thanks. I have a Kopis 2, I use the esc telemetry but on my Taranis on telemetry page, it shows many duplication sensors (5 Vfas and 4 curr). It's a bug or the separate value of the single esc? Thank you

It's the noob from Macclesfield again lol so I now have a zmr250 and a Flite Test Gremlin fully working and I'm loving playing about with them. But I was wondering if you could do an in-depth video series for us noobs about PID Tuning? I have no idea about it. Both quads are running of their standard settings and the only thing I've changed is the notch filter. I'm using the dynamic filter instead. I would really love to know how to tune these things, specially the ickle gremlin. I love the style of your teaching which is why I'm asking you to do the series. I think us noobs would be extremely grateful! Cheers bro and hopefully speak soon.

Hello. Can you please help me here.
I have a omnibus xrotor f4 g2 fc and 4 individual platinum pro 30 amps esc no bec. I tried my best to make them work together but i couldn't. Is it even impossible for that fc to work with individual esc. If yes. Please how. I tried almost àll the sitings on betaflight but i didn't succeed. Can you please tell how to configure them. I think it's probably the esc protocol problem?

@painless360 hey, found this vid 10 minutes after i figured out how it works, but the question is: can you calibrate the ESC-Sensor so you take account for all the other consumption? I know, since the reading comes from the ESC it is what it is, but I'm talking about "putting some mah-consumed per minute on top" to get a better idea of how long I still can fly!

Any idea as to why i am unable to get current draw from esc telemetry. Through i am able to get everything else, esc temps, rpms etc.

Using a kakute f7 v1.5 and tekko32 40a 4in1.

All the latest firmwares and betaflight configured correctly using dshot600.
