I’ve been guilty of being defensive as a white Irish person for the historical injustices of British colonialism and it’s serfdom practices as well as historical involvement in slavery and now I can see that I’ve had that option of agreeing that as a white person I am indirectly held responsible for the actions of others in my race. Therefore I now know going forward that rather than be defensive of accusation, it’s more productive to listen and acknowledge the narrative if historical injustices and long lasting psychological and social effects that have past down through generations and how that can manifest into anger, distrust and a sense of collective grievance
