I drove from the Bay Area down to San Diego. The Tesla Semi did a similar route! During the drive, I talk about the pros of road tripping in a Tesla, visit multiple superchargers, and calculate the final cost.

Nice video! I live a few blocks away from your beginning location. Here is my tips, try to drive the car until 5% before you go to the next supercharger and only do this only on the road trips. (This trip should decrease from 4 SC stop to 2 SC stops). Since the car will charge the fastest from 5% to 50%. Also drive below 70mph the whole time. This should save you at least 1 hour from SF to SD.

The video taught me an important lesson. If I don’t have a Tesla and own a normal gasoline car, I would reach my destination hours earlier than someone in a Tesla (cuz of wait times at supercharger). As they say, time is money, I would stick to a gasoline engine for the foreseeable future I guess

Thanks for the video man. I’m about to make a trip up to SF and back to San Diego in April. Pretty excited about it. But I’ll be leaving at 9pm from San Diego so it’ll be at night so I don’t think I’ll be able to see the Tesla cafe :(

Could the first supercharger charge slower because there wasn’t sufficient battery to precondition itself?

Just charge at v3 250 kW chargers, if at all possible. Your trip will go much faster.

So the charging alone added about an hour and a half to two hours to your travel time alone vs about 10 to 15 minutes to fill up on gas. And that's not including driving out of the way to some charging stations vs gas stations that are everywhere and right along highways. And if I was traveling at night I would not want to be charging my car in the back of a mall or anywhere. On top of that if a charging station is full then that adds to the wait.

The less range an electric car has, the more of a hassle they are for long road trips. And most EVs average around 250+/- . An EV with about 500 mile range would be more practical for long distance. Unfortunately the only only ones even near that are like 100k plus. But whatever floats your boat. I wouldn't mind an electric car but the range and charge times are an issue.

California electric rates for Superchargers seem highly inflated! I’m looking forward to my time of use Nevada rates with ..065 kwh.

Love the specifics. Is there an app to share this data and combine with mine in Oregon? Waze for Tesla. I use A better route planer and the car suggtions.

Sup man. Did you get PPF for your Tesla before the road trip?

This proves that EV's on long road trips suck. Leave EV's to driving around town, and use ICE vehicles for long drives.

People don’t realized that most times charging stations are located near food or shopping areas so although you save on charging prices you end up buying random stuff to kill the time. I always buy random stuff at target when I charge my Tesla 🤦🏽‍♀️ 😅

Didn’t save much vs a gas car. It’s about 500 miles from SF to SD. If a gas car gets 25 mpg you need 20 gallons of gas. About $4-5$ per gallon for gas that’s $80-$100 without the hassle of stopping for so many times and also waiting for your car to charge.
