A weird combo i really love is my dr marten‘s 101 with a pair of black socks with bananas on it (from happysocks). Somehow the bananas work perfectly with the yellow stitches of the shoe. And they also add something playful to the edgier look if the doc‘s :)

Very solid advice!
The only thing I would disagree is on wearing white socks outside of the gym.
Nowadays they make sport and casual socks in all colors, so you can have them go with your shorts and jeans nicely. That way you avoid the "booty" effect when wearing white sneakers, or have them ankles stand out when wearing darker sneakers.

I’ve always liked crew socks !How times have changed with socks over the years is quite interesting. I’m going to be 48 in May. Yorkshireman/recent American citizen who’s been living in Florida 21 years. When I was 18 white socks with jeans and trousers was a no-no, and considered immature or too casual. Now that’s acceptable. 10 years ago I rarely saw crew socks, now all the young guys at the gym are rocking them, black Nike crew socks with Nike sneakers probably being the most popular look. The older guys in the gym are still mostly wearing no show to ankle socks, but I think some of us are gravitating more toward crew socks.
