Organizing Your Miniature Painting Space | Hobby Paint Rack

I finally got tired of my cramped, untidy painting area and decided some re-organization was in order. I'll show you what I used to store my paints so they are organized and in easy reach.

By a messy area. I don’t have a great set up in my current place, so I’m working on a small side of the dining room table. But I feel much better when I keep everything tidy. It just means more trips to the paint tub, but gotta make the trade off

I love nail polish racks for paint racks, cheap, and do everything you need them to do ... Hold paints.

I still have two acrylic nail polish racks, but I have shifted my primary supplies to HobbyZone modules from Poland (although I waited for a 20% off sale at Michigan Toy Soldier so I didn't have to pay shipping, which was killer for heavy wood products).

The racks do sit out into the painting area more than I like, but the HobbyZone shelves don't take up as much desk, plus they go a lot higher and have built-in shelving, drawers and space for brushes, knives, files, clippers, tape, etc.
There is a cost investment and the need to assemble the kits together, but they use magnets to snap the modules together. You can pick which modules you put into your space, and they have a fair number of options. For each stack, I added the vertical paint racks made for Vallejo style bottles, and I have a corner open shelf module for storing other size bottles.

I did thesame thing but instead went for the wall mounted paint racks. They hold a ridiculous amount of paints per rack and used 3M Command strips to mount them to the walls with no fuss. This gives you your entire work area free and they cost about the same, perhaps slightly more.

I found that if you search ebay you can get cheap paint racks from china. The one I got is thin plywood, not mdf. If you dont mind waiting and the rack most likely being beat to shit by the time you get it, it's not a bad budget option.

Great idea. I built some multitear racks out of pallet lumber and mounted them to the wall. But, i like this better. I'm going to look into these.

I'll have to look into that, because right now I have my paint in two portable caddies. They are great for mobile usage, but suffers from the problem of always jostling around and becoming disorganized.

well you're right the nail varnish paint bottle racks are great. Better looking that those MDF ones that are on offer everywhere.

Great, you're totally right (and I subscribed). However, I don't know if i'm alone in this, but my hobby seems to have a lot more stuff than paint. I have boxes and boxes of tools, materials, drawings, notebooks, tokens, unbuilt models, built models. It's such a headache!

Not New Age at all, merely good sense. I love those nail polish racks you bought. However, for my painting cupboard, those racks would have too much wasted space behind them. I think I need to do a wall mount.
