Fun facts.
The SBDs in this movie look rather gray than blue. I don't know if it is the filter or else but the color scheme of these planes shows that they were supposed to be in service in Atlantic front.
There should not be so many A6M zeros in the air. Since the battle began early in the morning, the Japanese CAP fighters had been defending the fleet all day long and were extremely fatigue. By the time Hiryu was attacked most of them were landed on the carrier.
Also the SBDs should not suffer such high casualty considering that there weren't so many zero fighters and in reality the AA fire from Japanese ships were practically futile. By that time navy anti-air weapons, due to their lack of accuracy and low density of fire, were supposed to disrupt enemy aircrafts, preventing them from aiming straight and thus reducing their chances of scoring a hit, not shooting down as many planes as possible. For the tail gunner in this movie he should not have so much opportunity to shoot down any Japanese.
The Hiryu was caught completely by surprise because by that time Japanese fleets did not have available radar. The IJN used CAP fighters or sailors with high-power binoculars as early warning measures. Also the SBDs approached Hiryu from the direction of the sun, which made the Japanese sailors even harder to spot in advance.

To any people who think that this movie and its scenes are fake and wrong, I feel is a disservice to the men who were there. This scene alone is a testament to what they had to go through and I am grateful a director made a quality movie with amazing stories of what happened.

Starting around 1:50 .... From the smoke trails and flaming debris, one would think that nearly half the American force of 40 dive bombers was wiped out in their dives. In reality, the Americans lost 3 aircraft while attacking the Hiryu.

I walk out in a slight breeze, my eyes water but the director has these lads "flying and diving" at speed, past and over exploding aircraft, ships and ack ack fire.
No one wearing their flight goggles!

Love this movie, but those Dauntlesses got too many Zero's killed :)

They got carried away with the CGI as I knew they would. The aircraft and anti-aircraft were way to dense to be realistic. And the characters were way over the top cowboy. But I suppose they were catering to people that don't know any better. I'm retired Navy, and Navy pilots just don't act that way. Many of those who thought it was realistic probably are young gamers who think video games are realistic, because that's all they know.

Good video, and an ad after it says today work is broken. As far as I may see, being retired for the last three years. work is broken everyday! Once you've been fired bedause of age, it is not possible to get a job again.

I have seen alot of source material on battle of midway and this movie is the closest to real world facts experts have agreed the realism of this war is brilliant and shocking what the pilots and crews of this war had to endure 😢
