As a university student, it’s a must. My old roommate had to carry out his desktop from home and it was a hassle. Plus being able to bring it with you to the library and class is great

Generally for me personally, even if I need to stay on the wall juice (for better performance and short battery life), the fact that I can pick up and move a whole, all in one gaming setup to another room in seconds is the selling point for me.

I just got a gaming laptop because I thought I might need to take it to school or work and even though I haven't had to move it much, I love it. It's so easy to move, I can take it to my bed, couch, desk obviously, etc. And the performance in my programming tasks has been amazing! I used to have to wait for my old laptop to process stuff for ages, but this one does it in the blink of an eye. I just love it, could never give it up

I'm a college student, so the portability is a requirement. I have the G14, and it's really light and easy to carry around and lasts ~10 hours for the kind of work I do.

Got a Helios Predator 300 back in 2019 with a 1660ti, i7-9750H, 16gb of 3200mhz ram, and 144hz screen for $900 (it's now $1, 199 on Amazon) and it's been great. Just got my brother the 2021 variation with a 3060 as a gift to help him have fun while studying for his masters.

If youre moving a lot (house to house, hotel to hotel, exc)
Yes, if you want something to use at multible houses (Divorced parents, boy/girlfriend), yes
If you care about price/perfotmance, yes (keyboard+pc+screen, costs less then buying them seperate)

If you care about a true desktop experience, no
If you dont like something being hotter then the sun in your house, no

For me, a gaming laptop is a must as I go away for work a few times a year. Yes, the lack of performance is a downer, but having the versatility to bring it with me is a fair trade off.

But let's face it, you're probably not going to need a super high spec machine when you're out, because you can still game on a laptop with worse spec than a PC, even if you can't play the latest titles at 4k 60fps with RTX on, you can still play fun games on a laptop

I got a gaming laptop almost a year ago already. I love it. I wonder if I could have gotten a desktop that would run better for the same price. Probably but a lot of prices you see are just the tower. And talk about portable. I woke up to my apartment building on fire. I grabbed my laptop and ran out. Now it’s the only thing I own. 👍🏻 🔥. Now that’s portable. Haha

As a disabled person who's stuck in bed most of the day it's easier than a desktop for myself.

If I were to have only one machine I'll definitely get a laptop. As long as a game runs, it's good enough imo. But portability is too good an aspect to give up for kinda better gaming experience. How often do you notice the texture of the road in a game? It's useless luxury.

It's a must not only for college but even for if you go into the military. You'll be moving around a lot and even when you're on the same base, you'll most likely move your barracks room a lot as well. It's far easier to just fold up your laptop, throw it in a backpack, and move rooms.

Gaming laptops are nice no cap but if really you want a gaming desktop pc just get a pre built and later change the parts as time goes on because the gpu shortage is crazy

Honestly SUCH good information here! We just had a huge conversation about differences between the both today and this is perfect info!

I've been looking at a laptop due to needing some sort of "back up" so I can carry on doing my client's work, my PC was out for nearly a week and I lost out on hundreds cause of it, hadn't occurred to me before hand. So looking around for something that fits the bill by the year end to just literally be used if and when needed, this video does help a bit

An excellent summary of the pros and cons. I opted for a gaming laptop two years back (Omen 15 RTX 2060 i7) as needed a laptop for general work in a quiet setting and found the gaming specs much quieter than general use models. If the CPU power is throttled back 50% in the power plan the fans never spool up at all but plenty of power for all use. General / business laptops with lower specs that have used often seem to be more poorly cooled and uncontrolled noisy spool up of fans.

Power vs Portability is always the only argument in desktop vs Laptop. But the power gap slowly falling is such a great news.
