Not that I think the people at Avid truly give a hoot about their customers, but I thought I'd share my experience with Avid thus far.  

Here's the thing AVID.  I bought Protools 9 which had the free upgrade to Protools 10, which I thought was a grand thing!!!

I was trying to run protools on a Dell laptop with all the basic minimum requirements according to your system specifications.  I was able to install pro tools successfully, which looking back now at my situation was a miracle in and of itself.  The lag, hiccups, memory stalls and myriad other problems had me convinced the problem was  with my laptop's hardware and not pro tools.

How wrong I was.

I bought a 2013 Asus with 16 GB RAM, SSD main drive with a 750 GB 7200 HD to which I was recording to, I7 2.7 GHz processor and running Windows 7.  I thought "Yay now I can start recording and learning pro tools!!!"  - how wrong I was.

No matter the optimizations, tweaking and F*#&% ing about I could not fix the h/w buffer size error that randomly showed up and sabotaged my recording efforts.  There was a sh&t tonne of lag despite using an M Box Mini that came with Pro tools 10.

scouring the internet for a solution (avid does not have any useful information on the error....only a general "optimization for windows" thread) I came to the conclusion that windows does not work for recording music.

I bought a 2012 Mac and upgraded the Ram to 12 GB and have the same awesome set up as my Asus and now I find out my pro tools 10 doesn't work on Yosemite and that AVID doesn't offer any discount for protools 11 or 12 despite me being a previous customer.

They don't care to update protools 10 for Yosemite because they want to make money off of people like myself instead building a customer base.

Screw you AVID you are the worst company I've dealt with - up there with WORSTBUY and other useless companies.

I will use Logic from here on in and will not recommend Pro Tools to anyone.

By the way LOGIC is only 200$  and protools 12 is 900$

Used Pro Tools for 4 years. Lost my iLok and started using Logic X. Lets just say that I don't regret losing that iLok

Store your multitrack stems and projects on Avids cloud? You would have to be clinically insane to do that.

Is this PT 12's biggest selling point? There's ways to do this without needing to spend another couple of hundred dollars on a Pro Tools upgrade.

11 still isn't optimized, still crashed everyday on Multiple Well designed systems. Sessions recorded in PT10 occasionally won't open in 11. You guys fix your platform yet or are you just here to collect more revenue?

This is pretty piss poor, Avid.  Piss poor.  The only thing you've added is cloud collaboration...which isn't even real time (because that's impossible...unless you've figured out a way to fix the several seconds of latency that sending large packets of data over long distances necessarily creates).  

You guys are QUICKLY fading into irrelevance.  You'll be owned by Logic and even Reason within a decade, if not sooner.  I've never seen a company so completely unwilling to LISTEN to what it's customers want.  I think even Comcast is better than you guys.  Simply stunning.  Oh, and by the way, how's that updated version of Eucon that works with OSX 10.10.1 coming along?  Still waiting for that.  My Artist Series control surfaces are essentially about $3500 worth of paperweights right now.  God damn.  Let me guess, will the update be a modest $500 too?  You guys are something else.

I just updated from ProTools 10... it's so annoying that I have to be online to use ProTools. Is there a way around this? My studio is in a part of the house where the signal can get funny sometimes and the first thing that happens is that my session crashes without me getting to save it and this is incredibly frustrating.

I'm using PT 9MP, with fast track interface. I hate the iLock feature. I stay away from my studio for weeks, months at a time because I know, once I start to work, I'll be in near tears from all the freezing and crashing. Was wondering, waiting for a better PT (PT 12?). Wow! There is no love here for PT, and I have to say, "my eyes have been opened". What does a medium level experienced composer use now? I really dislike long, new learning curves, but will do what I must to get my groove back...

Once again AVID ur late to the party! STEINBERG beat you to the punch they already has vst connect 2.0 which allows users to collaborate around the globe in a more intuitive way. I encourage all to take a look at cubase pro 8 to see who's clearly a leader for creativity when it comes to digital audio. Avid pro tools just cant compete with German technology... CUBASE PRO 8 4 LIFE....
