How to Reset Xbox Wireless Headset & Pair (Easy Tutorial)

To reset your Xbox Wireless Headset, follow these steps:

Plug the bundled USB-C charging cable into your headset.
Position yourself near a power source, such as a Windows 10 PC, or Xbox console. Do not plug the headset into a power source just yet.
Hold down the headset’s power button and mute button simultaneously on the left ear cup, and then quickly plug the USB-C cable into a Windows 10 PC, power outlet, or Xbox console.
The headset should power off if the hard reset is successful. Turn the headset back on afterwards.
If you need to pair your Xbox Wireless Headset, follow these steps:

Be sure that both the headset and console are powered on.
Press and hold the green power button on the headset (located on the back of the left earcup) for 4 seconds. You’ll hear a repeated pairing tone, and the power light on the headset will start flashing.
Press the Pair button on your console (this is the same button you use to pair a wireless controller with your console). The power light on the console will start flashing.
When the headset and console connect with each other, the power lights on both devices will stop flashing.

Your suggestion was wrong in my case and also Xbox tells us a different way to factory reset the headset... Microsoft says plug the type C charging cable into your headset but not the USB end into anything...while holding down the pairing and mic button simultaneously plug it into your console, PC or charger...
This way worked for my Xbox headset 1st try after trying your way several times and failing.
