Well done I have seen a lot of PAT testing videos. And most don't have a clue and should not be let out on their own I give you 100% in all you did show and did say.

Hi thanks for the video! Can you use a multi socket like a double pin plug off a rcd plug or do you have to have one rcd plug per electrical item? Thanks

Hi, I’ve just completed a PAT testing course, your channel is very helpful, thank you 😃

Hi Ben. Can you look into showing how to PAT test a Class 1 Hot Tub unit with an inline rcd please? I've been trying to make up a test sequence for this but it's saying i require the red iec test lead.

Do you need an isolated supply when testing RCDs with this machine, will it trip the RCD in the building?

Nice informative video, Ben. Sure many people will find this useful.

Hi,
Thanks for the video.
I hope you don’t mind, but just to clarify a couple of points about the test currents and the phase angles:
The 0 degrees and 180 degrees are the peak of the AC sine wave, positive and negative supply half cycles, through the zero point to ensure that the test is made over one complete cycle on a 50 cycle supply and that the worst time case is recorded.
The 150mA test is a requirement specified as 5-times the nominal test current, which for portable appliances it will be 30mA but in some fixed installations it could be 10mA.

Hey pal,
find your videos very helpful. Have been PAT for around a two years (am not an electrician) and it has been a bit of a journey building up my understanding. I have a Fluke 6500-2 (do not buy one they are a pain to use) Used to use the meggar 450 till for no reason my boss moved me on, think he just likes the make.

Firstly I am stuck on how to test an appliance ie extension reel with a fitted RCD. Also what does the 180 mean when testing.
Secondly I am finding with my PAT tester that when testing surge protected extension leads it fails on the fuse test that it does at the end, a problem I never had with the meggar, have you come across this? What I do at the moment is test it like a class 1 with a socket adapter as a work around, insulation at 250v of course and use a plug in polarity tester at the end.
Cheers
James

Can you show us testing an Inline RCD please? Just came across them in my book, an online search shows some really weird looking things? Thanks

under what situations would you run a leakage test on a portable RCD?

How does using a "portable RCD" in line with another fixed RCD back at the consumer or fuse box unit affect SAFETY in a working or domestic environment? Just want to understand how or why it is a BAD thing??

RCD is not needed for line to line 230V (IT grounding system). RCD is highly recommended for 230V line to nuetral or TT grounding system.

Too much safety is more dangerous than none at all.
