"2053" - This is the number of nuclear explosions conducted in various parts of the globe.

Japanese artist Isao Hashimoto has created a beautiful, undeniably scary time-lapse map of the 2053 nuclear explosions which have taken place between 1945 and 1998, beginning with the Manhattan Project's "Trinity" test near Los Alamos and concluding with Pakistan's nuclear tests in May of 1998. This leaves out North Korea's two alleged nuclear tests in this past decade. Each nation gets a blip and a flashing dot on the map whenever they detonate a nuclear weapon, with a running tally kept on the top and bottom bars of the screen.

this is one of the scariest videos i've ever seen. In many issues scientist should try to consider a bigger picture when they work. I know we can't blame them, but they do have some kind of responsibility... After the world's experience with nuclear weapons, they should take lessons on ethics, the world is crazy... As we can't move from this world, we are going to have to save it. And i mean ALL OF US. Love to everyone

No. Actually it was because of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, which the Soviets signed and ratified before going out of business. The US signed, but has never ratified.

This stuff is pretty scary. Imagine how much nuclear weapons each country could have stashed away :o

The one we dropped on Hiroshima was, in fact Nagasaki was also sort of a test but we didn't much view it as one. And when i say test i mean the bomb we dropped on Hiroshima was a prototype

Comaritive the most of weapons were deotnated at Nevada's Nevada Test Site. At the end there is a HUGE dot. In the center is the Nevada Test Site!

It would add only 3 more tests, all in North Korea, in 2003, 2006 and 2013. That is all.

No, you're wrong. The data this was made from has been independently and officially validated.

Technically, we are not safe from war; the U.S. has been engaged in one war or another for much of my life, and we are now engaged in one which could well last all of our remaining lifes (since the enemy - terror - cannot surrender). "Safe from attack" might be more supportable, at least since 2001, but even then - if we had true safety from attack, we would not have to spend huge resources insuring that an attack didn't find its way here.

and atomic bombs needed to be tested to see all the effects they had, on living tissue, on naval targets, in the air, under ground, electromagnetic, radiation types and amounts... the list goes on. Then consider the number of nuclear weapon types developed (you had mines, bombs, and missiles of many different yields/fission types mounted on artillery, ships, aircraft, and ICBMs for example) and the need to test each one to understand and rely on it... and the numbers appear more logical.

Above ground testing is nuts. Below ground testing is crazy. Another good video is "What in the world are they Spraying". I guess it is the same nutty people.

This is quite interesting, notice how 1991-93 Soviets tested absolutely nothing for the first time in over 40 years.. It's because they finally went out of business in 93, and the soviets disbanded. They lost track of alot of their nuclear material - stupid comms.

Actually the number should be alot higher... Remember that South Africa, North Korea (I think) and Israel had also tested some nukes.

Hey guys, I think it works. You can stop testing now.

@iphopad Actually, the US tested approximately 35 more bombs on Japan afterwards (watch the end part)
