Had a Model X. Traded it in for a Mach E. Had it for a year. Back to a Model Y. Mach E by no means competed with the Teslas.

I Highly considered a Mach E, but dealers are still marking them up around here, so the $10k premium for the features I wanted quickly became $15-17k so model Y it was

More BEV OEMs to compare, cooperate, and compete with each other ultimately benefits consumers. Still a Tesla fan, but happy to see the Mach E on the streets. Also happy to see this excellent critical journalism, which also helps make the BEV market better for consumers.

I am glad somebody is reviewing and comparing different manufacturers. Thanks

Alex, you forgot 2 major items that'd make me choose away from Tesla model y.
1- Ride quality: Model Y is harsh, more stiff, at a degree that makes it unconfortable for most people.
2- Road noise insulation. Mach E has better quality build in isolation from noise. This has its toll, for sure on range and efficiency, but a car should be as quiter as it can be, specially EV's

I like a lot of electric cars. I don't have time for the CCS network. I traded my Niro EV for a Tesla M3.

Love the smartass reviews.😀

Ford May have more service centers but they currently know little about EVs or stock few parts if any for EVs.

As a recent Model Y owner, I appreciate reviews pointing out Tesla’s shortcomings in hopes that constructive criticism will bring about improvements. There’s a lot to like about the Model Y but there are some things that bother me. For example, Tesla removed some features from newer models (presumably to cut costs) such as the ultrasonic sensor and passenger lumbar support that as an owner I would like to have.

As the owner of both. The Ford binnacle leaves a lot to be desired. Info I want is buried in their main display or not available at all. I really don’t miss AA or CarPlay since there are several good alternatives. Tesla voice commands work MUCH better, the software is MUCH better and OTA updates are very slow on Ford, still awaiting BlueCruise 1.2. In the meantime, Tesla continuously rolls out new features. I mostly agree with you on the a/c and vent issue, mainly because I cannot shut off a particular vent in Tesla. Vertical screen is stupid. I also drive a 42’ motorcoach - once mirrors are properly adjusted, they don’t need readjusting. BSS is much better in Tesla. But I really like Birds Eye view in Ford. Service/parts, it took almost exactly as long to repair minor body damage, requiring parts on both. You left out the most important thing - DCFC on road trips, a DISASTER in any CCS car. And it looks like Tesla opening up any of their SC will be extremely limited. Efficiency of Tesla is far superior. But, I assume you would like my motorcoach, over 1200 mile range but at a cost of over $1000. Tesla app is much better, Ford PAK also not dependable, but I do like the touchpad to open the door since I hate keys/key FOBs. BTW, how did that VW ID work out for you?

Probably the thing that was most annoying on a Model Y was the missing rear wiper. That rear window collects water blobs almost every morning (Pacific Northwest) and is not clear to see out the back. I would have to squeegee it every morning and no I am not driving with the rear camera on all the time to see out the back.

"I like pressing buttons, especially of the Tesla fabois, because they are so nice to me"
Okay, that made me laugh out loud -- literally; thank you for that, Alex! 😂😄 while I may not always completely agree with your takes or opinions on everything (especially when it comes to specific EVs), I feel that you tend to make interesting and thought=provoking points in an entertaining way, and I do appreciate that!

… not much later…
"parts for Ford, on the other hand, are easier to find than the disgruntled Tesla fans in the comments section of my videos"

🧐 Hilarious, again! 🤪

You made some valid points but left out a major consideration, mileage. The Mach E requires more kilowatt hours to recharge and will cost much more to own due to being far less energy efficient.

I’m 70 years old, drove semi’s with dozens and dozens of switches and knobs but absolutely love our Tesla Model Y. No way I want to add all these complications every other EV maker puts on their vehicles. 15 months later no issues with the Y no need to deal with crooked Ford dealerships.

Right in the beginning of the video you talk about the three main things for buying any electric vehicle and I said any electric vehicle. And the Tesla model y beat out the competition on all three thanks. And not just any three things the three main things and those three main things are:

1. Price Thousands cheaper
2. Distance 279 vs 224
3. Charging speed 5 X Faster

You said the 5 reasons why are
1. Instrument cluster
Extremely out dated with the majority of what is on them not used in a electric vehicle like and oil gauge a heat gauge a gasoline gauge oil pressure gauge ECT... For the simple reason there is no transmission and there is no oil being put in the vehicle and there's no water being put in the vehicle and there's no antifreeze being put in the vehicle and no transmission fluid and most definitely there is no speedometer cable that makes the speedometer. move over old school cluster.

2. Manual use of vents 🤣 because this is extremely important buying feature 😂 not to mention it is not buried digitally like you said. All you have to do is swipe up on the temperature in the left corner and it comes right up then you can simply use one finger and put the vent wherever you want it you can even split the vent to go into different directions. But wait there's more you said if you were on auto pilot it makes it even harder? How you're on autopilot? Yes it is much much easier. But I'm still surprised that you would consider this a selling point that is as important or more important than the price of the vehicle 😂 It's easier to adjust your mirrors, then to pull up a sub screen and adjust them that way? Seriously you said it's easier to adjust them that way then it is to roll down your window put your hand out in the sub-freezing weather adjust your mirror and then roll up the window turn your heat on high to warm back up? Not to mention why are you adjusting your mirrors into the drive you only have to adjust your mirrors one time can lock it into memory on your driving. Even when you backup your mirrors tilt down just a little bit so you don't have to readjust them in a Tesla. Not to mention how is this more important than the selling point of the or the charging speed or the distance that it drives?

3. Tesla y does not have Android auto or carplay, once again I would ask how is that more important than the distance the car will go the price of car or the charging speed of the car seriously 😳

4. Tesla struggle with its service centers you are absolutely correct. Again this is not a top 3 major selling points for a vehicle. And of course the major question here is why would they need so many service centers like Ford Chevy and everyone else. That is something you really don't want to touch because the other places have things like I don't know oil changes transmission services radiator flushes things that you would never have an electric vehicle and you must have those service centers every three to five thousand miles for every single vehicle they have on the road. Common Sense Alex. Not to mention for minor things Tesla comes to you on your schedule that you can easily schedule in your app in the vehicle or on your phone by the press of a button... Will Ford or Chevy or any other brand do that? No.

5. Insurance price of the Tesla versus a different vehicle. Why don't you just put it up against an 86 Honda Accord? There are so many variables when you're getting an insurance but I know for sure that this is not the selling point to buy a vehicle especially an electric vehicle the main selling points are as stated above the charging speed the price of the vehicle and how far it will go single charge! Personally I pay $115 a month for full coverage insurance on a 2022 M3P.

This is bad journalism.

Now if you wanted to have a headline saying other things to consider when buying an electric vehicle that would make perfect sense. Seriously you're doing clickbait now? You call us Fanboys but you just became a total and complete Tesla hater.

😢

And you wonder why you have pushed back in your comment sections? It's not the Fanboys it's what you are putting in your journalistic bs. You might keep this in mind when you do a piece like this or what I would call hit piece like this when you tell 9 truths and 1 lie it still makes the whole section not truthfully. Try to remember that.

Final note that you're really missing in all of this. the majority of the replies that you're getting is from your fan base and if you notice the majority of replies are negative and it's from (YOUR OWN FAN BASE)! Let that sink in, these are people that have click that Bell icon or favorited you because they like what you're saying and talking about but those are the people here giving you the major push back! Think about that. Trust me if you don't people will start not clicking the Bell icon and the like button will no longer be clicked. Food for thought.

Brilliant Video.

My wife and I tested a Y . We could not find the glove box. Later we discovered how to open..in the menu.

Model 3. My knees were same height as my shoulders.

Neither Y or 3 for us.

I would say your last two points are the only ones that would really matter to me. Lack of service center can be a pain indeed. I'am wondering though how many ford service centers have the expertise and parts availability to service a mach-e or f150 (honest question). For the aesthetic it is very debatable but the mach-e is a good looking car indeed. Not sure if better than the model Y, but good looking. For the buttons or rear mirrors, that's kind of a non problem for me. Once your profile is configured, the Tesla automatically adjust everything to your preferences... 0 need to mess with it. For ventilation, once set to 21 degree celsius, you don't need to mess with it. Drive mode is super easy. The only real silly thing imo is the glove box. A nice add on might be a heads up display but on many trips, once set to autopilot you don't really need those info and looking at the center screen really is no big deal. You also fail to mention some important positives: the supercharger network, the phone app, the over the air updates, the safety (Mach e is excellent to on this point), the responsiveness of the software, the mobile technicians for minor maintenance, the bigger cargo capacity, the better mass distribution and wheel control, the simpler purchasing experience (imo...). Again, to each their opinion and the mach e is a great car, but in my case, I can not justify spending more for a vehicle that's inferior on almost every aspect that matters to me. I'll take supercharging and greater autonomy over buttons and heads up display any day of the week.

I enjoy you videos. A correction, My model Y insurance through Tesla is $106/month. Comparable coverage with Allstate was approx. $240/month. I live in Arizona. Long trip charging availability and cost were the deal breakers for me. I much prefer my new model Y :-)

As a Model 3 owner I recently rented a Nissan Altima for a week and when using Android Auto (AA) I found I had to take my eyes off the road MORE often to ensure that I was at the posted speed limit as I had to constantly check my speed on the gauge cluster and check the little center display (where AA presented the speed limit) It was much easier using one display in the Model 3 where I could see my speed and the posted limit in one spot through my peripheral vision (also FSD Beta reads the signs so it's more accurate). Also, when driving at night I love the fact that I don't have a set of displays and lights in front of me interfering w/my view of the road. Feels like I'm on a motorcycle w/o the wind. Regarding, the lack of buttons, sliders, etc. - everything else is set and forget (vents, side mirrors, music..). Tesla's voice recognition works like a champ and their recent OTA upgrade allows you to basically program the scroll wheel to do practically anything making their interface even better.

You convinced me to check out Ford. I tried to order a mach e and Ford can't tell me how long it will take. Tesla gave me a date range within 30 days that will be close based on my previous experience with ordering a Model Y. That's one for Tesla.

Alex, great points and you are always entertaining.
When the neighbor lady banged up her Tesla Model 3 bumper, it took the local collision repair shop 8 weeks to get the needed parts from Tesla.
